it's a company that found that their IP isn't profitable anymore for classic games

Because they don't put effort into their shit. Look at the latest Contra: It looks HORRIBLE. If Konami isn't going to bother, they shouldn't throw money down a well on shit that clearly won't get their investment back, unlike Kojima who did (after a while, granted).

which capcom beat em ups are better? stuff like captain commando sucks. They've got AvP, Final Fight, the DND games and that's really it imo. Konami had TMNT and The Simpsons.

Most beat-em-ups from that era are pretty simple and it's not like Konami was the only one putting out so many cookie-cutter "move right and attack/jump+hit both buttons for special" games, but that's kind of all Konami put out.  Their games still look and sound great, but are so simple.  You got better variety and/or game play with AvP, the D&D games, The Punisher, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Battle Circuit, etc.

My kids and I still play Chronicles of Mystaria (Tower of Doom combo).  To this day, I'm still learning new moves that I didn't even know existed.  Like the classic fireball motion does a special move.  Plus it has so many branching paths, it has mad replayability.

Noise Factory/SNK also knocked it way out of the park with Sengoku 3- it's from after the arcade golden age and has little enemy variety, but it plays so damn well.

Capcom kept the spirit of their beat-em-ups going with Sengoku Basara.  It's a shame that seems to be dead now.  :-\

And then if you want TEH AWESHUM!!!1 in a more recent game...go check out Fight 'N Rage on Steam ASAP- It's.  So.  Good.  SO.  GOOD.

This reminds me that I still need to play Tengai Makyou II and IV someday. I picked up the 3d remake of II on GC but never got too far and same with the 3d remake of I on X360. Just need to play the 2d originals at some point.

Might pick up one of these since M2 is confirmed. Would rather get the Japanese edition for Tengai, but don't want to spend that import $$$ so probably just get the US one.

The whole Konami boycott doesn't even make sense unless you're one of those weird Kojima drones. Hardly anyone cared when they stopped making classic IPs many years before letting go of Kojima, but only the latter caused a widespread reaction.

At the end of the day, it's a company that found that their IP isn't profitable anymore for classic games - what can you say against that? It sucked, but they will only be proven wright if an actual decent product of theirs flops too :yeshrug And then we aren't going to get any closer to a real Silent Hill remastered trilogy.  :brain
They only make Pro Evo and re-released classics, they're literally boycotting themselves from me ever buying stuff from them.

Konami became uninteresting right around the time they changed the logo: The day the kukeiha logo died is the day Konami died.
I haven't purchased any new Konami releases in many years. I have pretty much all of their old games I ever wanted in my collection, and there is no point in giving them them money for ports of old software as it won't lead to new games of the same kind being made.
Note that I'm not specifically boycotting them, they simply aren't making anything I want anymore.

Konami has also Yu-Gi-Oh!, and while they are currently in the process of mismanaging that franchise into the ground, it's such a juggernaut that it'll probably take a few years.

Hmm, they released Duel Links like two years ago and now it's their one of their biggest moneymakers. :lol

Highlighting the biggest successes in digital entertainment, Konami praised the ongoing success of the now two-year-old mobile title Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links, which has surpassed 90 million downloads.

For the TCG itself, they keep revamping it with each new anime, to mixed results. In fact Duel Links' early popularity was mostly because it stuck to the original ruleset (no Synchro/Link/Pendulum/etc. etc.) :lol

But they're adding those back to Duel Links now, and while the Duel Links crowd has always been prone to complaining, there might actually be something real there now.

PES Mobile and Duel Links, lol.

In terms of console and PC games, PES continues to be the big hit with the game's online mode myClub performing particularly well, thanks in part to a promotion with the mobile version.

They also make money on pachinko, slots, and other gaming machines.  When I was in Vegas last year, pretty much every casino has one of their huge horse racing machines.

Has to be mobile. Can't imagine their back catalog and PES or whatever else they have is pulling in that much.

Get a PCE Mini- same thing, about the same price, smaller form factor, and Amazon.jp sent it to me with free overnight shipping- it's coming tomorrow and I'm not even an Amazon Japan Prime member.

Don't have much to say about the PCE Mini and I mean that in a good way- if you've used an NES Classic Mini, SNES Classic Mini, or Genesis Mini, you know what to expect here, right down to the interface style.  Very solid emulation and the box is nice n' tiny.  Comes with a pretty long controller and USB/HDMI cable, too.

There's an icon on the lower-right of the menu to select console type.  You get a cool animation transition and different menu/music types for the PCE and TG16, plus the different game line-ups.

Can you change the language of the menus to English?  I'm tempted to get one even though I have many different ways of playing the games already.  I was one of the few nerds that actually had a TG16 back in the day and there are some great games in the lineup.

Yes, you can use it in full English.

AFAIK the difference is that the PC-Engine Mini has Tengai Makyou II: Manji Maru and Tokimeki Memorial, while the Core Grafx and Turbo-16 Minis will have Salamander- and none of that will matter once it gets inevitably hacked.

Got mine, messing around with it, the biggest thing that stands out is the sound. The music is fucking GOOD. Like I played TG-16 as a kid, never played PC Engine or any JP only stuff. But I guess it's cause these were on CD-Rom, the sound quality of the music is just insanely good and sounds pretty modern.

Messing around with the games, seems like a lot of good shmups here. I've known Cho Aniki as a series being muscle men version of Paradious but  this is my first time playing Cho Aniki and THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME?!?

Also Dracula X still holds up outside the 3-5 mins of unskippable cutscenes at the start.

The base TG16 had some awesome soundtracks.  Dungeon Explorer, Alien Crush, Devil Crush, Bloody Wolf are some of my favorites.

The CD games are even better for the most part.  Lords and Gates of Thunder are among the best of all time.

And yeah, the system is great for shumps.

TG-16 audio stomped all over the competition at the time, easily.  And then the CD games were just beautiful- first played Dracula X in 1997 or 1998 and it was still amazing despite being dated.
