Music you were into as a teen
« on: June 22, 2019, 05:47:18 PM »
I was into punk. Hip hop started to be boring besides Jay-Z/Nas feud so in high school i stopped listening to hip hop entirely outside of maybe outkast.

My mainstays. Please don't laugh.

I cannot articulate the loneliness of being a black kid in the 2000's that liked punk.

As the 2000's went on and we were in the middle of war and had freedoms taken away, punk was actually talking about the issues of the day so I driven to it even more.

I used to wake up every day and watch MTV for my daily music.

Also, I posted on a square/ff board and we talked music with people around the world for the first time. I was introduced to british bands like Muse before they even released their first album in America.

Origin of Symmetry was my shit but so was Hullabaloo.

I also loved Gorillaz.

Probably a bit earlier than teens actually.

In my teen years i was in the "Just discovered Pink Floyd/King Crimson/Led Zeppelin" phase.

As a teen I was into Trans-Siberian Orchestra and music from movie trailers. :doge

I'm currently into Evanescance and All-American Rejects. :doge :doge

Maybe when I'm 90 I'll have acceptable taste in music. :doge :doge :doge

I like The End, Backdoor Man, Break on Through, Riders on the storm, when the music's over, but i'll concede that was a stretch, i still like Zeppelin more, even though Plant can get really fucking annoying.
Still, no good songs though? Come on, now.

Why would anyone not listen to Zeppelin though?
Because my tastes changed somewhat, i prefer other types of music.
When i get that itch i usually prefer to listen to (Ian Gillan era) Deep Purple.  :yeshrug

Of 70's Dad-rock, King Crimson and Pink Floyd are more my speed, to be honest. Those i still listen to regularly.

There will never be a fourth wave of ska because if there were its members would cover Goldfinger's "Superman" with the same frequency that "Come on Eileen" was covered in the third.

I grew up on Detroit radio, so I started listening to rap in '85 and well into my early teens.

I was listening to Public Enemy, X-Clan, Tribe Called Quest and all the Native Tongue related groups. Then in '91 (like most everyone else) I found that rock music could be cool and went that way.

Most of what I listened to was a direct effect of watching Head Bangers Ball on MTV in the late 80's.

Hair Metal was a gateway drug.

Hell yea, Mojo was the best. 'The Mothership' was must-listen radio. That's where my love of rap/funk came from.
