Japan's national news agency NHK reported on Thursday at 9:21 p.m. that, according to the Kyoto Fire Department, 33 people are confirmed to have died in the fire that engulfed Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio building earlier on Thursday.

That's insane; is this a popular animation studio?
I guess we don't know more about the attacker's motives yet ?Dreadful news.
One of the people presumed dead is Yasuhiro Takemoto, director of FMP Fumoffu & Second Raid, Lucky Star, Hyouka, and Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
They were supposed to announce information on the Free! Movie today, obviously that isn't happening.
This mother fucker. I hope he gets the death sentence. Killing people because of a perceived plagiarism? He's a goddamn psychopath.
It's been reported that at least 20 of those who died were women. KyoAni employees more women, and in higher positions, than pretty much any other studio.

The method of capital punishment in Japan is death by hanging. I consider that cruel and unusual, so I'm not rooting for it personally, but I won't shed a tear over this guy being taken out of society...

It's insane.Murder by arson is pretty much instant death penalty sentence in Japan, too.
Why do people feel the need to say that they don't like a cartoon? I keep seeing that kind of comment on this story-- it doesn't matter. Some sick bastard murdered 33 people with fire and gasoline. It's one of the worst crimes in post-WWII Japan and may be the highest death toll ever committed by a single individual there.
I hear that being burned alive is actually quite painless as the nerve endings sear shut and the body goes into shock, so I hope that comforts the families
