It seems that it may have something to do with him thinking they stole his idea for an anime. But he's also listed as being in five different conditions, so it may be a while to clear things up.

RUMOR AND SPECULATION

There's a rumor which I think is highly suspect because of how quickly all the "details" came out, but I read that the attacker sent them a light novel for consideration, was rejected, and then saw something similar to that light novel adapted to animation. Rumor is KyoAni was saying they "plagiarized him" after he was apprehended.

Some sick bastard murdered 33 people with fire and gasoline. It's one of the worst crimes in post-WWII Japan and may be the highest death toll ever committed by a single individual there.

Obviously it's not as important as the lives lost and irrevocably changed, but KyoAni's President mentioned that all physical and digital media at the studio were completely destroyed. It just makes me feel even more sad knowing that what the victims had worked so hard on is lost, as well.
