Ebay seller woes
« on: July 27, 2019, 01:38:33 PM »
So I'm pretty new to selling and buying stuff on ebay. But I acquired some Pokemon games which I wanted to sell on there. Pokemon Crystal went like a charm, positive feedback and everything.

Now I sold Pokemon Ruby to another guy a few weeks ago. I made clear pictures, the box was in great condition and no visible creases and stuff. Plenty of pics in the ad. I sold it to a guy from the US and sent it out, just as I did with Crystal. I see he received the item about 10 days ago. I send him two messages asking if he'd received the game in fine order, but got no reply. I thought nothing of it.

Now today I go on Ebay and see he has made a return request because the item did not match the description, even though I have in my ad I don't accept returns. Seemingly in this case there is nothing I can do about it? He says there are creases on the box not visible in the pictures of the ad, and indeed he attached a picture with a crease in the box that was not there when I sent it out. I have offered him a 5 euro partial return, because fuck this he bought the item and he had plenty of time to ask for additional pictures but he did not. I also reported the buyer to Ebay with that same explenation that he is abusing the refund process.

Sadly Paypal/Ebay has put a block on the money I received from the transaction and now I have a negative balance. What the hell do I do now?

Sounds like he doesn't want the item that you send him. Just take it back and sell it to someone else instead.
From what I've seen of your pictures here, you don't have a great camera so I understand if he couldn't properly see the condition of the product.

You can't just say: "I accept no returns" if Ebay has policies that allow for refunds/returns.

Well in my mind he could have asked for additional pictures before buying the item right?

Here is a link to the ebay page

https://www.ebay.nl/itm/312675245046?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649

There is a small crease visible on the bottom right, but what he send me goes way further up and above the E rating.

I dunno man that's not how it was when I sent it out. You should be able to see that in the original pictures. And he has had it in his posession for 10 days, who is to say he didn't cause this crease himself?

Either way, since I offered a 5 euro partial refund basically as saying hey man I dont agree with this, I think this might not have been the best option because if Paypal is going to take the money out of my account I'd rather have the item back.

Could've happened with shipping? Maybe it was opened at customs to check for weed or whatever.

Anyway, in your ad it says: "Mint condition" but I wouldn't call this mint condition based on the visible crease especially for your asking price.
Something like: "Near mint" or just a mention of the crease would've made your case better.

Sure I totally agree. But as I stated, the game is as pictured. The asking price is what the game normally goes for on Ebay according to pricecharting. Def could have happened during shipping. I would still say this is mint condition or near mint, doesn't make much of a difference ( to me ). One can clearly judge for himself by looking at the pics included and any additional pictures I would have gladly made for any potential buyer.

I just disagree with his case of wanting a refund. Doubtful it happened during shipping by the way. I packed it in a bubble wrapped, and packed that bubble wrapped box in a box with plastic air filled things that made sure it wouldnt be able to move.

Nevermind the fact that I start my new job august 12th, and am basically broke untill then. I cannot even pay for shipping at this time.
This is super fucked up imo.

Even though you used a potato to take those pictures, the game clearly isn't mint. Mint means same condition as new. No blemishes, no signs of use.
Be that as it may, the seller knew what he was getting if he looked at the pictures. Sucks for you but in cases like this ebay almost always sides with the buyer.

if you didn't ship it with any insurance or whatever there's no way to tell how the item was handled.
It sucks but if you sell stuff you have to account for refunds. There's no way around it.

What does shipping cost?

The seller might've thought it was the light reflecting or something, which happens in a lot of these pictures.
The fact that the description doesn't say: "Mint, except for minor damage near the age rating" makes it hard to tell Ebay the buyer is wrong and knew what he got.

Honestly, eBay offers you basically 0 protection as a seller unless you are a power seller.

I’ve had unscrupulous sellers that sold something differently than described, when it’s worked in my favor, but people are trash on eBay.

Selling on Ebay is a real shit show. If you have any other alternative, use that. Ebay provides basically zero seller protections in any way. Also, picture or not, you listing it as mint when it isn't is probably enough for Ebay to justify fucking you over.

I’ve found that for gaming items it’s better to sell directly to someone in a community. CheapAssGamer is a good one, and obviously RE but I don’t think you’re a allowed there anymore.

I sell a lot of my old anime and games on ebay.  Don't refund until you get the item back, verify that it's the exact same item and in the same condition that you shipped to him. If it's not, dispute it.  I see you have good pics of the cart.  Watch that carefully.

I had a seller demand a refund for a Japanese PS1 game where the case cracked in transit (was well packed, but those things are brittle as hell).  Guy wouldn't take anything but a refund, but I made sure he did his due diligence in getting me pics of the item and other than the case, it was sent back in the exact condition it was shipped to him in.  Just get the item back, get the refund out if the item is still in sellable condition, and cut him loose as fast as possible.  These types of encounters are rare for what it's worth.

For re-listing, make sure to mention the sticking point for this guy and maybe take an additional pic of it, that way they can't say different than description anymore.

Ahh shit

So any clue what happens or I should do? I viewed his return request and had a few options, I chose to offer a partial refund of 5 euro's.. lol now ofcourse he's going to deny that but what happens then? Can I still take the refund route and receive it back? And yeah, make sure it's the same cart etc.

If they don't want the partial, they will request full, then they need to ship the item back before you refund them.  Ebay offers the option to send them a shipping label, I suggest doing that as it makes it easier.  Confirm it's EXACTLY what you sent them, and then refund them and relist it with more info so no one can claim it's different than the description again.

Okay guys so he was supposed to ship it back but I guess he never did I asked him for an update on the parcel he said " Hi. Sorry for the late response.I appreciate that you would take it back and a lot of time has passed since. I'll just hang on to it. Thank you. "

I still have the debit on my paypal account because of his dispute. How do I get my money back?
