What software do you use to stay organized, brehs?
« on: August 14, 2019, 01:20:01 PM »
I'm a fan of Workflowy for basic todos.  Google Calendar so I don't miss stuff. And the Notion for projects. Just google them to find out more, my dudes.  Everyone knows what GCal is though.

I used to use Trello but found Notion to be more versatile.

I've introduced Monday when it was still called "Dapulse" for well 'everything'.

Best tool we've ever used for managing anything ever.

Pretty much this as well.

I only use Monday so my employees, clients, business partners etc. can see what the status is on things and what they must do etc. .
That and Google Calendar for the appointments. The rest is just free wheeling based on priorities I have lined up in my head and being able to always see the critical path from start to finish and having the experience to identify where the roadblocks might appear in a project. People hate it when I tell them why their project might derail.

Everyone thinks that in tech the roadblocks are technical challenges but it is usually content/feedback/test results that the client has to provide that is missing, a new stakeholder that suddenly wants to take control of the decision making or a sudden change or increase in scope.

How much would a majority stake cost me just to be able to fire you?

For a couple of months I installed jira on an ec2 instance and ran the major parts of my life as projects with stories, epics and tasks to drive them to conclusion. I then logged a task to myself to remedy my dry spell with women, this resulted in me instantly deleting the ec2 instance.

I was about to ask what kind of fucking nutter uses Excel as task tracking software in the year of our Trump 2019 then I remembered I was responding to an accountant.

tbh I use google sheets more just because it's easier to access on my phone, but I'm so used to putting even simple to do lists into table format and it's second hand to make one at this point, so :yeshrug

i have to use jira at work. it's more so there's some traceability to my work and letting people know when im done with the generic weekly performance/qa tasks and shite, but it does also let me dismiss people shoulder tapping for random features like "put it in the backlog binch".

fb reminds me of things i want to go to sometimes, and i use keep for heaps of random notes i sometimes tag for cleanliness but it's mostly a brain dump.

also of note: letterboxd, discogs, spotify, gcal, slack /remind, and my memory

I've tried all the popular notes apps and lately I've just been using a Google Docs file with plain text.

For work I also use six different project planning tools and thankfully I will soon be able to drop most of them in exchange for JIRA. They all come with pros and cons.

I use outlook calendar, then when the reminder comes up to kill myself hit snooze for another 24 hours  :smug

Trello is really good though I use it for work.

My DM's are open starting at € 300k - 500k

You don't necessarily need a majority stake.

For myself, I just use spreadsheets. Sometimes post-it notes if it's a thing that needs to be done today.

For team-based projects at work, I just filter the info they need and copy/paste it into an email. I feel like I'm missing out on some better tools but you can't really do that at work unless you get everyone on board.

Excel is awesome for to-do lists. Having a table that is automatically formatted based on date, location, project lead, etc is super convenient and I do it all the time.

But most people fool themselves into thinking a Gantt chart has value even though, by definition, Gantt charts are a purely visual fantasyland self-important bullshit way of communicating information to others. It's like the hentai branch of erotic novels.
