Sunset Overdrive off Steam before it's pulled due to Sony shenanigans I guess?

and Marvel Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank forever more.

Fuse bomed.
Sunset Overdrive was exclusive on X-box for whatever godforesaken reason Insomniac thought was good.

Honestly, it's surprising they WEREN'T first-party when they were like... second-party for all the Ratchet and Clank, Resistance exclusive console releases already.

Too bad, they were one of the few big studios doing good PCVR games.

I see no silver lining here tbh, but maybe they needed the financial security.

Because Microsoft published it.

And it's still on Steam, even available as part of the Microsoft Action Bundle™!

I don't believe Insomniac had much to do with the Windows version, Microsoft hired Blind Squirrel Games to port it.

They get money and can continue to make good games, and anyone with a Playstation gets to play them. Sounds like a win to me.

Silver lining is that as someone who only has PSVR and can't play any of their good PCVR title, maybe they'll make some good PSVR titles I can actually play.

Spiderman has sold over 13M copies. They'll be busy making sequel for a while.

They were already making good games, and they were already making exclusive games, if needed (Spiderman).
It's not like they didn't get paid while not owned by Sony, and it's not like Sony wouldn't kick them to the curb if they underperformed (see Evolution Studios and all the other studios they shut down).

Now, if they did it clearly the pros outweigh the cons from their point of view, but as a consumer, i can't say i'm thrilled, exclusives are just shit in general.

That's fair enough.
Personally i think PSVR is just too limited by inferior hardware (ps4, but in particular, the wand's accuracy) to be worth that big of an investment.
I'm also annoyed by the exclusive Oculus stuff, but at least that's piss easy to "crack" and play on any VR device (i think you can even use PSVR on PC, with some tinkering).

Eh, disagree. PSVR when devs give a shit controls pretty good and PS4 Pro has enough power for good enough visuals. Games like Astrobot or people beating Beat Saber songs on Expert+ on PSVR are proof of that. But if devs just port over PC stuff, yeah the controls are a lot worse typically. The homemade PSVR stuff has controlled pretty well and the quality PC ports too.

Would definitely like to see what Insomniac could do with a made for PSVR game.

Presumably Sony is developing a new and improved motion controller for PSVR 2 on PS5.

I hope so, VR doesn't seem super hot at the moment, but i think it's doing ok enough for them to keep investing in it.

However i think they [all VR manufacturers] should focus on following the Oculus Quest example, because the untethered experience is the road ahead, i believe.

Sony didn't want to lose Insomniac to Microsoft, Google or Amazon and Insomniac probably didn't want to team up with a publisher with a less than stellar track record in buyouts.
This is a good fit but I'm not sure how I feel about the big boys trying to gobble up all the studios.

That's a good point. I would be surprised if Google didn't inquire about some kind of long-term partnership (they're not quite at the point of buying whole studios), and Sony was probably like "If Insomniac is off for the next few years making games for Stadia, that cuts our expected PS5 output in half! We can't have that."

Yeah, it’s too bad they don’t want to launch VR2 with PS5 because it’ll confusion customers. So probably not coming until ~2022. But yeah should be a major upgrade by then.

My money's on them naming PSVR2 as "PSXR" or something, so the "2" doesn't confuse people trying to match it with "PS5." Of course, they might just go the Win10 route and call it "PSVR5" -- the cool Roman numeral option is out due to PS Vita, sadly.
