Fire Season
« on: October 11, 2019, 03:09:33 PM »
It's fire season again in Southern California. Workday (I work at a school) got canceled and I still went in for a couple of hours because I didn't get the notice until I was almost off the freeway. It's been a regular occurance in Southern California over at least 5 years at this point. Fires suck.

We wouldn't have sequoias and redwoods without wildfires. Do you hate nature?

There's no redwoods and sequioas in Southern California to begin with!

Duh, we needed to cut those down to make the forts that helped kill all the natives.

You mean to tell me California wildfires aren't a regular occurrence? :doge :brain

You just need more fire.

I was driving past this fire today after work ended.

Quote
A 30-acre brush fire was burning in Los Angeles' sprawling Sepulveda Basin Thursday, filling San Fernando Valley skies with smoke on a day with critical fire dangers.

As fires burned around the Santa Clarita and Castaic area, consuming homes, the Sepulveda Fire in Los Angeles broke out shortly after 4 p.m.

It was reported in the 5600 block of North Woodley Avenue, near the intersection with Burbank Boulevard. It's an area where homeless people are known to bed down and keep belongings.

Here's every fire burning in Southern California today

https://abc7.com/4-fires-erupts-in-socal-amid-red-flag-conditions/5645162/

Quote
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Four fires burned out of control in Southern California on Thursday amid red-flag conditions. Several homes have been destroyed, and mandatory evacuations have been ordered.

Firefighters were in a fierce battle to save homes across the Southland. Authorities say they've ordered at least 40,000 people to evacuate as wind-driven fires rage near neighborhoods north of Los Angeles.

The biggest of the fires was the so-called Tick Fire, which was burning in Canyon Country: Click here for the full story

Quote
Just to the west of that was the Val Verde Fire, and to the north of that fire was the Castaic fire, dubbed the Old Fire: Click here for the full story

The fourth fire was burning in the Sepulveda Basin: Click here for the full story

There is no containment on any of the fires yet. The flames were fed by dry winds that are predicted to strengthen across the region. Forecasters say peak gusts could top 70 mph (112 kph).

DO YOU SEE. DO YOU SEE.

It's crazy how quickly the air saturates when this happens. I was at Ralph's in Marina Del Rey around 5pm and even inside the store you could smell and feel the smoke from the air.

A bunch of my coworkers left work early to rush home and make sure they got their pets and whatever ready to go if things get any worse. With so many concurrent fires and the fact that the winds are supposed to be 30+ MPH for half a day, it could be a bad couple of days.

Yeah I saw all the schools in the SFV are closing. Betting that means about a third of my coworkers are working from home tomorrow.

Felt like the air quality and wind were better today. Someone from the Madden discord who lives out in the valley said they kept his power off for 30 hours for "precautionary" reasons.

Tonight is another red flag wind situation. Tomorrow could end up being a very bad day.
