Do you have an OS for your life?

Traditionally, Life OSes have been various religions or creeds. As religion continues to wane in the Western world, people still do look for something to interpret their world and how they deal with life's ups and downs.

Of late, Stoicism has gained seen a resurgence both in pro sports and the tech world as a Life OS. Here's a primer:

There's also #YOLO, but usually, #YOLO tends to lead to flameouts. Not the best if you have longer-term goals!

I do incorporate Stoicism to my life OS, with Christianity--not the far-right fascist kind that has infected many US churches. I don't think Jesus came to make people rich! Nor do I think he came to blame the poor for their misfortunes. I'm a big fan of liberation theology as well.

I’m not super religious but I believe in God and being a good person. Would like to have done more good than bad before I die.

My dad was really shitty to me and my siblings and wasn’t there for my family a bunch when we were growing up, so I think part of me wants to be a really great dad one day so that I can know what it’s like to have a healthy father/son relationship.

A thinker characterised by rejection or progress, rationality, reason or metanarratives for morality, celebrations of difference doesn't have ripples in the politics of today?

Nietzsche continues to be relevant because his writings embody a certain disillusionment that only exists in the imperial most developed countries. His language has been interpreted and repurposed in both 'left' and 'right' contexts and will continue to be for the foreseeable future imo.

Once you understand mereological essentialism and hard determinism there's pretty much no point in being alive anymore. I strongly urge no-one to look those up, but if you want to go ahead.

I don't subscribe to any religion and am pretty anti-religion in general, but I do quite like a few of Anton LaVey's ideas and philosophies, just without the edginess that goes with the majority of his thoughts/followers.

Do unto others as they do unto you...is a pretty good summary and a good subtle counterpoint to the Christian version of do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

As a philosophy, it's much less passive and doesn't prevent you from fucking over someone who fucks with you.

I also like his ideas about life being about seeking pleasure and knowledge and the need to take responsibility for our own actions.

I know that all these ideas are just other philosophers' ideas rehashed, but 15 year old me didn't care about that because it was edgy and 41 year old me doesn't care because that shit actually makes sense and feels comfortable as a way to live my life.
