Y'all do e-books/e-readers?
« on: October 17, 2019, 06:47:08 AM »
I've been on the e-reader train since the second-gen Kindle.  I do still buy physical books. But nothing beats having a having tons a book in an easy to carry device.  I also love the smartphone apps, getting some reading while queueing up or on mass transit.

Also if you're a Kindle user you can "rip" your ebooks using an excellent program called Calibre.

I also love Kindle because there's no shame in buying certain kinds of books like trash airplane fiction lol. No one knows! Romance novels and trash genre fiction are amongst the biggest sellers the Kindle Store apparently lol.

Still rocking my Kindle 3G keyboard. Had to replace the battery and the 3G network in Australia is rapidly disappearing, buti see no reason to upgrade yet.

I love hardcopy books, but I hate having to store them, particularly as I don't like disposing of books. I can't see myself ever dropping my Kindle or returning to hard copy.

I've been reading manga through the Shonen Jump app, does that count? :doge

I've got a few Kindle books, but I also have a bunch of books (mostly computer/hacking stuff) through Humble Bundle that I haven't even flipped through. :lol I have a bad problem of buying books and then having them sit there, kinda like me buying games and having them sit there (but I'm trying to fix that by actually sitting down and finishing the stuff I've bought so far now).

I'm either/or on physical vs digital, but I think I prefer digital at night and being able to read on a train/car easier than a physical book in terms of holding a phone vs book (as weird as that sounds).

Donate your physical stuff to your local library. Generally they'll do book sales with the donations to fund their programs and stuff. You wouldn't be "disposing" of them, but more giving them away.

Most people use them to "rent"/borrow DVD's and stuff if they can't afford Netflix now a days.  :doge Also most libraries have shifted into social programs and helping folks find jobs.

Sadly, it seems reading books is going the way of the dodo.

I prefer reading physical books. It would be nice to free up the shelf space at home though by moving to digital media.

Libraries are becoming more community and cultural centers of late. Many libraries also have options for borrowing ebooks as well! Libraries are dope.

I read a lot more on ebook, mostly because I can hold it for a few hours straight without having my hands cramp or my neck because I'm trying to get light on a book.

Also ebooks, at least fantasy/horror/scifi go on sale all the time so I'm generally only paying 3-4$ for a book.

I read basically everything that isn't picture/art-heavy on my Kindle Oasis. Moving house a few times in a couple of years killed my enthusiasm for physical books.

I haven't read a new book since 2011. :(

I feel bad about it, but there's too many other things to do.
