I think this will be the first game I buy on/close to release in a long time. I was LttP on Doom 2016 but it really grew on me. And I want to get online while everyone is still playing.

Best thing about nu-Doom is you just punch a lot of assholes' heads off which is a good concept for a videogame

Not to bat for DRM but I wouldn't consider Denuvo invasive from a system PoV (not aware of anything bad it does in that sense). Pretty much just periodically checks online activation once every few months but otherwise games can be played offline ime. Can't comment on any performance difference, though will say MGSV which had it ran amazingly well which I attribute mostly to the engine.

(Btw was nice to see the new Wolfensteins and Dishonored series on GOG recently)

People claim it impacts performance, but it's either FUD or only relevant to people who play on toasters.

DRM sucks for other reasons, but everyone knows only a minority of people care about preservation, online-requirements, activation limits and whatever, so the above is repeated ad nauseam.

Not that I ever had a problem in dealing with it, its just that I dont ever want to deal with it. I am buying a product, pirates shouldnt have a better version than me as a consumer.

Either way I have no issue waiting, it was removed from DOOM 2016 as well.

The stinginess of the ammo and the reliance on the chain saw. Pacing of the combat feels off compared to 2016.

Also they seem to have a bigger focus on story, but nothing makes sense. And the story doesn’t seem to be in on the joke this time.

This is like FFXIII where you have to read a shit ton of lore in the menus to even get a good idea of wtf is going on

Starting out on Ultra-Violence, really enjoying it so far. Loving the resource management and the tension of trying to run up on an enemy to glory kill them for health while you have like a sliver remaining. Also, the higher difficulties really force you to move around way more. They made ammo stingy just to make you use the chainsaw, something I rarely did in 2016.

They accidentally shipped an uprotected executable again (as with Rage 2), so you won't have to worry about it. :heh

It’s been a long time but I don’t remember having such low ammo capacity on all my guns in 2016.

Also, regrets for getting this in console, it just doesn’t play that well on it.

Yeah, I’m not liking this as much as 2016.

What made Glory Kills work was well you’re already trying to kill them so it rewards being aggressive, it has a benefit to killing monsters, but it also served as a second rest from the chaos.

Now there’s an awkward interruption because I have little ammunition and have to chainsaw people, maybe find something I can if my fuel is low.

But I guess you can upgrade. Maybe it will be better as it goes on.

Some of the demons talk to you, but Doom Slayer just shuts up and listens because he knows his privilege as a white male oppressor.

Yeah but he's showing his abs. Why is he showing his abs in a life or death situation? I don't know if there are any arteries in his chiseled stomach, but clearly this is unacceptable character design.  :maf

I played the first level and noticed some frame hitching at points.  It could’ve been unrelated, but I’m thinking this is $5 maybe because PC already had a better running and playing version of Doom 64 with the EX version.

Absolutely fantastic, I'm loving every minute of it. Special shout-out to whoever wrote the deep lore, that stuff is my jam.

I'm not feeling this at all. Yeah, you gotta use the chainsaw because the game's not constantly throwing ammo at you, but the chainsaw automatically replenishes charges and it really doesn't take longer to chainsaw than it does to glory kill. It's just another tool in your arsenal and the way the combat is set up this time around you gotta use every tool you have.

Yeah I can’t agree with this. The game wants me to be super aggressive to the point of having an obnoxious amount of stuff to use and do. But since you quickly run out of ammo I find myself awkwardly and quickly being auto forced to use the chainsaw. Which feels abrupt when it happens. It dosent take longer sure, but having your fight constantly sidetracked while fighting bigger enemies is annoying. Because you probably can’t use your chainsaw on them as you love already been forced to probably use it 2 or 3 times during the battle and are then forced to find a lesser demon to quickly chainsaw and then get back into the rythem. After being taken out of it because the game is stingy with ammo.

Combined with a not funny and shitty told story.

This is nowhere near as good as 2016. I never felt like I was being taken out of my rhythm when being aggressive in combat. I feel like that every time I run out of ammo. There using the chainsaw was a quick diversion. Here it’s a constant uneeded mechanic. I feel like all these new things are like that. Glory kills were ok right guys? Let’s kind of add them for every resource so now battles feel even more tedious instead of the simple go all out affair they were in 2016. Game is a huge downgrade.

2016 was a perfect simple game. This game so far is “let’s put a lot of toppings and shit on your perfect cake” type sequel.

I’m still playing on the easiest difficulty but now that I understand could probably bump it up a notch.  This game would really control better with mouse and keyboard, it’s not a very controller friendly shooter. It’s playable, but I can tell my performance really suffers compared to what I could do with a mouse.

Edit: was t sure my 970 could handle it.

The damage to enemies from gunshots is pretty cool. I don’t think they had that in 2016

I'm kind of not feeling this one.  :doge  There's nothing wrong with it, but even by the end of Doom 2016, I was kind of getting tired of it. It was getting repetitive and this just feels like more of the same.

Kinda like how Doom 2 felt for Doom, but the original gameplay was just so perfect.

Lack of variety in the locations was one of the few complaints I had with Doom 2016. Doom Eternal has knocked it out of the park so far in regards to level variety, lots of really cool looking areas.

I mean, they made it more arcadey and bombastic to separate itself from the original.

I mean, what did you want... just a map pack and a few weapons? :doge Another facility to explore? :doge
Yeah, I would have taken Doom 2016 with a few changes, new weapons, and a new setting. That sounds like a good sequel instead of overwhelming and obnoxious new features, shit platforming, and a nonsensical and not entertaining story.
