Headaches, drowsiness, waking up mid-night.

Man...

And I only drink two cups per day, but I've been drinking coffee since a teen. And am an old millennial now.  However, my energy levels are slowly improving. Could be placebo/nocebo BS tho.

I think I'll go back to coffee in time.  Just doing a reset of sorts.

Did you just give it up cold-turkey?  Maybe slowly ween off of it instead?

I did this once for a couple of years and it only felt bad for a week or so.

If you're having withdrawal symptoms, try consuming more caffeine.

You’re not going to be able to take dumps. You won’t last long. It gets weird after a few days.

I actually tried that. It was towards the end of it so it may have worked, but I don’t think the conjuring happened until well after the cigarette so I can’t really give it credit.

Glycogen, the muscle's primary fuel source during exercise, is replenished more rapidly when athletes ingest both carbohydrate and caffeine following exhaustive exercise, new research shows. Athletes who ingested caffeine with carbohydrate had 66 percent more glycogen in their muscles four hours after finishing intense, glycogen-depleting exercise, compared to when they consumed carbohydrate alone, according to the study.

on the flipside, start depleting your glycogen storage so you could put that caffeine to use

None of this explain why quit drinking coffee. If you're going to quit anything, just stop putting milk and sugar in your coffee and drink it black.

A vapid youtube vid at that.

At the very least should have brought up yesterday's Fresh Air.

vapid? it was just a vid succinctly explaining the basic scientific effects of caffeine on the brain and neurotransmitters without saying anything either way in terms of whether you should use it.

rman decided he wanted to stop fucking with his adenosine receptors and be less flushed w adrenaline and dopamine I guess.

i learnt that consistent caffeine consumption increases the number of adenosine receptors over time, and that the inhibition of adenosine on those receptors is the way it keeps you awake. it also explained why with continued use you essentially need to drink more caffeine to get the same hit as you did when you first started. i read a study a while ago that looked into how caffeine affects your natural cortisol levels. drinking when you wake up starts to inhibit the natural burst you get in the morning, but waiting til 11am or so when your natural levels dip keeps you "up", and how too much beyond what you're used to can stimulate abnormally high cortisol levels essentially recreating a stress response going beyond giving you energy, likely causing anxiety and lack of focus. that manic feeling.

i probably drink too much caffeine, but i don't think it's bad for me really, but very noticeable when i've gone a little overboard for sure. when im on holiday i often quit for a bit to get my brain back to some kind of baseline and i quite like how low key i feel. i also notice how much stronger the hit is when i go back to it.

I still start my day with a coffee

Now i just try not to drink coffee after lunch and drink tea/herbs

i very loosely modified my morning habits after learning a little more about how it affects cortisol levels. def helped cut down without seeming to affect my daily functioning

Maybe I'm lucky, but I get no withdrawal symptoms when I stop my caffeine intake for a couple of days. I can drink it or leave it as I please. No craving, either. Is that unusual?

"Two cups" I take it it's not espresso.
Maybe switch for tea ? You'll get some of the same chemical agents (or not even that if you go for Rooibos) but it's less upsetting overall.

Nah. Just picked a random one.

Been feeling sleepy for a bit now.  So I have been doing some personal ab testing.  Withdrawal symptoms are abating, but I’m sleeping deeper weirdly.

Naff explained it.

I have espresso actually. Two cups of that.

I've quit coffee twice, first time was absolute hell with the headaches etc. Second time was when I ended up in hospital with appendicitis, but before I knew what was going on I thought the stomach pain horrors were from coffee, because it started right after I'd finished a cup. In the hospital I didn't have coffee and I was drugged up so I wouldn't feel any pain from the appendicitis, but I also didn't feel any caffeine withdrawal headaches, pretty convenient way to quit.

I did eventually start drinking coffee again, I'm weak. I'd sometimes like to quit since it doesn't really do anything for me, it's just a habit, but I don't want the headaches and don't have access to an IV drip of heavy pain meds this time so nahh. I'll keep drinking it :fbm

I think I'm very sensitive to caffeine. Some people have more tolerance for others less.

For example, before this experiment, I tried black tea. I had it around 6 pm on a Sunday. I know rather late, but I didn't think it would mess me up that bad.  I could not sleep all night. I know black tea has caffeine, but I didn't' know it would affect me that bad.

I can drink strong black tea at midnight and go directly to sleep, but if I have coffee after 5PM I'll be awake until 2AM.
Maybe different types of caffeine (or the attendant other chemical in each) affect us differently.

I feel you. I remember back when I started to drink coffee (already was in my early thirties) I was restless and anxious for basically the whole day after drinking a single cup, basically what Naff wrote. Not even sure why I kept drinking coffee, because the feeling was really not so nice. Probably the taste and the shared social ritual (this was when I was writing my graduation work). Took me months to build up tolerance.

Even now, when I drink more than two coffees a day I will get extremly restless and can't fall sleep.

What's curious, I don't really feel like I get a boost in the morning from coffee or that I feel less awake if I miss my coffee. I kinda feel this is more some form of self-hypnosis. Like there is some effect from coffee that activates your cardiovascular-system, but I don't feel like my mind really gets going from coffee.

But what's great about coffee is that it really helped with my migraine. I definetly have less cases of migraine since dring coffee. Only problem: if I don't drink a coffee in the morning the chance for a headache actually seems to have increased.

Also regarding black tea I'm not sure if it's better than coffee regarding messing you up. At least a cup of black tea is comparable to a cup of  coffee for me (although the actual coffein intake should be definetely higher from coffee to tea). Just read up on wiki that coffein from tea is released in intestine compared to the gut for coffeine from coffee. Because of that, it takes longer for the coffeine to take effect and it lasts longer. This might be a reason why tea fucks more with your sleep if you drink a blck tea in the afternoon.

I'm wide awake in the morning now. Holy crap! And I only need 7 hours of sleep compared to my usual 8 now.  What a crazy experiment.  I thought I was just getting old lol.  No more morning grogginess.
