Diane was the more fleshed character with the more interesting and different dynamic than Rebecca but the early years of that characters were pretty fun. By the end the character was all over the place though.

Diane and Carla are horrible characters. They're antagonistic all the damn time for no reason at all and should've each been fired on fifty separate occasions before the start of season three.

At least Diane is well-read and has a good vocabulary? Did she go to grad school just so she could be a pedantic know-it-all in a working-class pub? No one is impressed.

Well yeah, but it's kind of perfect and comes off as very believable. I like to think Diane started off as a writer directly including an ex in the script.

Rebecca was always way more of a traditional sitcom character IMO.

I think my mistake was binge-watching the first three seasons. I started auto-groaning every time she was on screen.
