I think it's great that you want to live abroad and highly recommend it, but I don't know if doing it to 'escape' the shit you don't like is going to work out very well.

The naysayers in this thread are being ridiculous- if Cindi wants to go try living in another country, there's nothing wrong with it, it's not an 'impossible' thing to do, and it's not like she can't move back to the States anyway if she does it and doesn't like it.

It's not to escape. It's because I legitimately dislike America. I do not want to stay in the future and I think the reasons inhsve given should suffice.

That's what I meant by 'escape.'

Bork the naysayers are like that because they're American where people only know how to cut down. Like I said before, selfish. If my friend said they wanted to leave I'd be supportive. Crabs in a bucket: the country. The responses actually give me more reason to leave as it reminds how Americans are really like.

Dunno if they're all American.  Regardless, I agree with you on the negativity being shown in some of the responses.  I think they think you just want to up and move immediately or something, dunno.

But I also see the other side of the "argument" going on here- you're hating on Americans but you've never experienced what it's like to live elsewhere.  I can certainly tell you from personal experience that assholes are everywhere and moving to another country is not going to solve that problem.  :P

Who cares. There are numerous stories of Americans - particularly black Americans - living very well abroad by escaping the tyranny of American life.

In any case I will see for myself as I visit abroad this year.

If I wanted to emigrate to another country in Europe it would be Switzerland.

I‘d live under the poverty line there though with my current salary. :stahp
Beautiful country and great quality of life, but their stance towards people immigrating into Switzerland?
Nah, I'll rather stay here.

Whut thee fook yu just ay ye limey cunt!?

It also isn't any wonder that it's the NON Americans that are supportive and understanding, proving the point and showing the difference in values. Or in the Americans' case, the lack thereof.

:yikes

Some of us aren't being "negative" for your reasons, valid as they are. Some of us are being "negative," because we think you might possibly be overreacting as you sometimes tend to do, and I say that with love. If you want to move: More power to you. But saying "things will be better in <country here>! Unlike these stinky Americans!!!!" is missing what we're getting at completely: Shit will still be the same, some things will improve, some things will be worse. But life is what you make of it, no matter where you are.

That might sound like an empty platitude, but I'm seriously asking you to consider things and not just go "oh things will be better in France!" when France has their own kettle of fish/problems to deal with.

Sorry for the late reply. I just got done with unpaid overtime shift. Excuse me.

I think they think you just want to up and move immediately or something, dunno.

Fuck no. It'll take at least two years to save enough money and get good enough at the language (if it's a foreign language) to integrate to whatever country it turns out to be.

Quote
But I also see the other side of the "argument" going on here- you're hating on Americans but you've never experienced what it's like to live elsewhere.  I can certainly tell you from personal experience that assholes are everywhere and moving to another country is not going to solve that problem.  :P

I'm sorry but I'm losing my patience. If you think my argument has been American's are assholes then you haven't read a damn fucking thing I've said.

"Moving to another country is not to solve the problem". My argument this entire thread has been one of RIGHTS.

I have brought up many issues with America and almost all of them stem from rights. America is a backwards nation for all of the freedom it jacks off to. This has nothing to do with assholes. My rant about American's is only an extension of the symptoms I am talking about. This has to do with quality of life and human rights.

I listed originally multiple countries, all of which contain better human rights for me. In America I do not even have protections against discrimination as a trans person.

In America, my state and others are routinely trying to find ways to punish people like me and impact our life in a negative way.

Meanwhile, France:

Quote
fter granting same-sex couples domestic partnership benefits known as the civil solidarity pact, France became the thirteenth country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage in 2013. Laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity were enacted in 1985 and 2012, respectively. In 2010, France became the first country in the world to declassify transgenderism as a mental illness. Additionally, since 2017, transgender people have been allowed to change their legal gender without undergoing surgery or receiving any medical diagnosis.[2]

France has frequently been named one of the most gay friendly countries in the world.[2] Recent polls have indicated that a majority of the French support same-sex marriage and in 2013,[3] another poll indicated that 77% of the French population believed homosexuality should be accepted by society, one of the highest in the 39 countries polled

We can bring up the entire list of countries posted on the first page: Canada, Germany, UK, Spain, all have more rights than America for LGBT people.

Further the argument Samir made about it being dumb to want to move to other countries without having visited them first is beyond ridiculous, given the fact we are also talking about America. You know, the country immigrants travel to on foot with the hope of a better life? I'm not in those same conditions, and I won't be moving ANYWHERE without visiting first, but believing the country you are in will continue to result in a poor quality of life is common. In fact, that's usually the reason people move to begin with.

More talk of RIGHTS and RULE OF LAW.

Quote
In 2017, transphobia became a cause of aggravation for all crimes that can be punished by prison.[76]

Quote
In 1985, national legislation was enacted to prohibit sexual orientation based discrimination in employment, housing and other public and private provisions of services and goods.[2] In July 2012, the French Parliament added sexual identity to the protected grounds of discrimination in French law. The phrase sexual identity was used synonymous with gender identity despite some criticism from ILGA-Europe, who nevertheless still considered it an important step.[49][50] On 18 November 2016, a new law amended article 225-1 of the French Penal Code and replaced "sexual identity" with "gender identity".[51]

1985. 1985. Meanwhile many of my trans friends can't get jobs or are harassed while on the job in America. Where people can threaten to FIRE you for being trans.

Meanwhile, In America.

See, this is what I'm talking about. Even the commies, who pretend by the way, to care about other peoples rights undermine and belittle it because liberalism. Where you care more about commie history and memes than actual people.

For a long time, I could bear with the lack of protections for LGBT people. I could deal with the fact that the country basically created a new slavery by putting millions of black people in for profit prisons en masse. California only just outlawed them. I thought,"you know, things could get better. Our institutions have shown great progress." I felt "you know, yeah our police kill innocent black people just for being black and that could be me some day, and I definitely get frightened any time I'm stopped by a cop, but we can make things better."

But the past two months have shown me even the institutions and completely benign in its neglect. And the past week has shown many in the mainstream are completely not trustworthy and they are completely besides themselves that someone dare fight for every day Americans.

I stopped believing in the American dream a long, long time ago. But I figured that we could make it better if we just fight harder.

Nah.

Fuck making things better in America. It's out time.

Originally I said that moving from America was really just a backup plan. Now I fully plan on it. I no longer believe in America at all and trust nothing within it. I want out.

For all of the problems in other countries abroad, I am confidence that I will have more rights and be treated with far more humanity.

If you think this boils down to merely assholes, then no, you're not supportive.

TLDR: America fucking sucks, man. I will build myself a better life elsewhere.

I would rank France about equally as bad as the US in terms of foreign policy. Vietnam, Algeria, the Suez crisis, Libya, the way it treats other members of the Eurozone... what they did to Thomas Sankara :tocry

nice little social democracy though. if you want a higher minimum wage and strong labor laws you could always consider CALIFORNIA

Given, IIRC, France was important in annoying the British enough to ensure American independence and gifted them the penultimate American idol. Is France therefore not liable for every American sin and crime :thinking

We did indeed liberate muhrica from the Brit shitheads' tyranny.
Whatever happened afterwards isn't our problem :hmph

Do yourself a huge favor and do some international travelling.
Save some money, then go to Europe for a few weeks and visit a couple of different countries.
As an American, it's incredibly easy for you: You can travel 26 countries (members of the Schengen area = all EU countries except for Bulgaria, Croatia, Ireland, Romania) for up to 90 days without requiring a visa. You just need to show that you have enough money to support yourself for the duration.

France is easier to immigrate to than Canada? I’m a little surprised. What are the big requirement differences (if you haven’t listed them before and they fit into easy bullet points, I haven’t followed the whole thread)?

Did you check the unemployment rate in France?

It sits at 8.5% and keeps gong up.
In the Netherlands we're at 3%, mostly because the unemployed don't want to do the jobs available (because it might be a 30 min drive or whatever) and those on welfare benefits rather watch Netflix than learn how to make Facebook posts :trumps

so its under 8%, expected to go back up to 8.5% and stay stagnant by the end of the year? dunno if that's much better :lol
That's not the point. Nintex said unemployment keeps going up--it has been on slow and unimpressive decline since 2015.  :karen

So he was lying. See, Cindi—why should you believe his lies of EDM supremacy?

I'm hoping for Macron to beat Le Pen but given things in France now and her recent polling I'm definitely worried. However, she was soundly defeated in last election so I still have hope. Although it gives me pause I am still aiming for it. Here's hoping the socialists bounce back but the parliament vote doesn't give confidence.
