I only know what you know, but have seen this before- a friend and his wife split up, but kept living together for their kid's sake.  One day he comes home and finds them gone.  He found out that she went back to Japan and "disappeared.". He went looking for them, hired P.I.s, etc.  The Japanese government will not help foreigners in cases like these.  Anyway, I'm not sure how things got resolved -lost contact with him for a few years- but spoke to him last year and things ended up working out.  He's on good terms with his ex and goes to see his son a couple of times a year.  Am hoping things turn out well for DC, too.  He doesn't deserve this.
