What's the appeal of cats, boys?
« on: March 07, 2020, 09:28:05 AM »
First of all, I do like cats.  I never owned one, but I've enjoyed seeing them at friends and relatives.  I've had dogs. I'm currently without pets rn.

But cats kinda just sit there.  With dogs you can walk them, they greet you with enthusiasm when you get home and so on.  I do miss having furry companions, but I can't swing a doggo rn, so that leaves a cat as the next option. However, I do want to commit and not feel regretful due to the commitment of owning one.

Also, it seems cat lovers get them in pairs or triples.  Are single cats a healthy thing?

Thank God cats are like that. Don't get me wrong. I like dogs. But I hate how utterly needy they are. How you have to walk them and do all this stuff. It's a massive time sink. You can't stay out late and do stuff if you have a dog. Dogs go crazy if they haven't had social interaction in the last six hours. Then you've got single people living in city apartments with a busy ass life with doggo stuck there. It's cruel and many dog owners are not up to the task. Some days I don't WANT to go on a walk with fido. Guess what? They don't give a shit. Cats however are like people. I like that I have to earn their affection and love. I dislike how neurotic dogs can be and they tend to like anyone once they've smelled them. Again, I like dogs. But I LOVE cats!

Because kitties get lonely.

A single cat is fine but a friend will help them stay preoccupied.

Personally I've opted for one cat, one dog route. I really do like both! But kitties get the advantage with me.

cats are great but definitely are different than dogs. a lot of them will be happy and greet you when you come home if that's something you want. as far as pairs or singles, it depends on how active the cat is. younger or more active cats will definitely want to play a lot more than you will want to play so getting them in pairs basically helps keep them occupied. three cats can be tough depending, cause if they weren't raised together that usually leads to one getting excluded from all the fun.

if you just want a single cat i recommend looking into a senior kitty (7-8+ years old). they are often less active and can do with less play than a younger cat and they often are more into just hanging out with you or snuggling up, plus they are usually overlooked in shelters by people who just want kittens. an older cat is a great "intro to cats" pet and are just sweet little things.

I don't find eating meat cruel to animals until I think and ruminate about it for a bit, but pet ownership I find immediately and viscerally disgusting.

Ironically, you sometimes see people's twitter/insta/facebook tales of "I don't own a cat, but this cat showed up in my car/house. Do I now own a cat?" Nah. The cat has made you its pet. Enjoy. It's awesome.

They’re really cute and they kinda like us. I even like the colder, asshole cats because when you do finally get some positive attention from them, it feels like you’ve won a war. Or at least a truce.

They're playful without being needy. One gf had a dog that would always try to jump on the bed during sex and that was actually pretty annoying. Cats just respect you enough to perv from a distance, I assume.
