Nintendo's Next System after Switch?
« on: April 24, 2020, 05:50:44 PM »
In my crazy opinion they should go with Switch 2 and make it backwards compatible. Switch is my favorite Nintendo (home) system since GameCube.
What do you think?

Switch 2 with Tensor cores delivering DLSS and VR by late 2022.

540p undocked upscaled to 1080 OLED handheld screen
1080p upscaled to 4K docked mode and VR mode.

Just pump 2021 and 2022 full of first party software.
F-Zero, Wario Land, BOTW2, Metroid 2D, Metroid Prime 4, Donkey Kong Country. Mario Kart 9, Pikmin 4, Switch Wars Just bring all the games.  :rejoice

I can imagine the new president has changed how they develop consoles behind the scenes to prevent another Wii U. Not sure if the lesson they'll take from that is "don't continue the former console's branding," but it's possible.

I've said it before but personally, I'm OK with modest Switch revisions for a while. If they want to do a GameBoy/GameBoy Color situation and give the Switch "platform" basically a 10+ year shelf life, I'd be very supportive.

Putting the Switch on ARM simplifies the backwards compatibility situation going forward too, which will be nice.

Wii U was a marketing blunder of the highest order; many people didn't get it was a new system.
People do get that iPhone 2 is a new system. They get that Playstation 5 is the successor of PlayStation 4.

That's the thing, you don't have to run games in 720p so you can get higher framerates.

This is 540p upscaled with DLSS 2.0 to 1080p

Yes, that's using AI to upscale an image from 540p to 1080p, which is far less taxing for the GPU.
Giving you about a 30% or 40% increase in performance compared to rendering at a native 1080p resolution.
And the image quality is better.

It's gonna be Switch 2. It's clear that the hardware brings a unique value proposition to users. It's not selling because of a gimmick  it's selling because it's desirable. Probably the first time since the DS.

Imagine if Switch 2 was Switch DS and they went back to DS form factor just with HDMI output. :doge

Never underestimate kooky Nintendo. :miyamoto

And then Switch 3 is Switch U with a dedicated console and separate screen controller...

It also wasn't portable since you still needed to be within about 10 feet of the console.

With both handheld and console divisions merged they have no choice but to keep it moving. So :yeshrug People are too hard on Nintendo. They barely ever detour from a winning formula. They stuck with carts because snes and tradition. They made Game Boy Color basically the same thing with barely any color functionality. 3ds is basically a more powerful ds. Wii was the result of products that weren't working. Switch is working. You people are far too cynical about Nintendo. About 95% of you thought switch would suck despite the fact that merging their divisions means they're putting everything on the line and would force them to go all out - a pretty easy bet. I really need to start getting into buying Nintendo stock.

There's been rumors of some sort of 'pro' configuration since before the Lite was announced. The machine is only three as it stands, if they just let it run through the 5/sx gen that wouldn't be super surprising.

There's been rumors of a "pro" system, a standalone TV-only system, and a handheld-only system. We got the latter...maybe the TV system is next.  I wonder if they'd consider selling something like that for as low as $100.  Would bank on $150.

Or something different with yet another gimmick that will be forgotten about by devs (including Nintendo) after the launch period. And specs from 2012.

Then I will complain for 4 years that there's still no new Metroid or F-Zero.

I like how it accurately predicted how VR would work with Oculus inside out tracking and VALVE Lighthouse.
Plus what a great feature being able to render 512 million Mario 64 castles is lol.

Also I was a 16 y/o gamer boi  :fbm

Me and Moz La Punk(?) came up with the idea of the Nintendo Revolution unveiling being a game by itself.
That Nintendo and their partners were dropping hints as to what the Revolution was and you had to complete the puzzle.

I remember even getting some of the most savvy game journo's on GAF on board with the theory and then we just kept dropping fake rumors.
