SOUL CALIBUR 3
« on: August 14, 2006, 03:45:14 PM »
I finally got it today! This game is the pwn! Not to sound like a graphics whore, but this wipes even the Xbox version of Soul Calibur 2 all over the place. And this is just the PS2.  I don't know what certain Gaffers were thinking when they said this Soul Calibur is a flop -- they're crazy. This is vastly improved in every way over SC and SC2.  Haters be damned.

right now i'm playing it and i'm enjoying it but there are some nagging aspects, like the ai which seems to be cheap and irritating, and does little else than to constantly block moves and use the same cheap redundant attacks... i like the varied epic quests though

and i don't know if i'll keep playing for quick fighting game fixes because Namco has an obnoxious THX intro that lasts about a minute and can't be skipped every time you boot the game up

Is that creepy masochist dude in this one? He's my favorite character, next to Spawn on the Xbox version  :P

Mondain: That's nothing. In SC2 at the higher difficulties the AI would just get into these stupid Guard Impact showdowns. I know there's a video floating around of some kid guard impacting with AI and the only way anyone one was that they fell off the edge haha.

I usually play with it pretty hard to keep my raph skills in check.

Shake: Yup, voldo is in it.

??? I skip this every time.

Anyway, this is the best game in the series yet.

Zasalamel is the shit. But I find myself using old chars like Xianghua, too.

And I still haven't even played the different mode yet, teehee.

I'm regretting the decision at this moment. But I only played for about 15 minutes, so yea, I don't know.

Seems like exactly the same fucking game on the surface. I'm not used to minor upgrades in fighting games (and I guess neither are they)...or really any games for that matter. I don't buy sports games every year and I'm not a big fighting game fan. This is the first fighting series where I've bought two releases in the same generation (three if you count DC). I knew this would happen. Fuck. I already played the first two enough. Whatever, I'll play through the single-player and I bet I'll enjoy it.

Its not the same game, pay attention to the characters, all of their movesets are refined. Taki plays even more like a ninja for example. Raphael's fencing style is even more refined.

I think it takes more than 15 minutes to appreciate what changed.

And how could you not notice the difference in the "SPIRIT" of the game which is more like Soul Edge than ANYTHING that came after. The stages alone are awesome, but the story is awesome and branches too I think. COME ON!

I actually rarely play fighting games with anyone. I get pretty good with a character but I never play the game long enough to outlast the hardest AI

well nevermind, i discovered that it happened because I had no Soul Calibur 3 game save on my memory card yet, just created one a few hours ago and now the nagging cutscene is skippable...  :-[

Very true sir. But there's about 30 other games for PS2 that I want to play that are 20 bucks.  ;)

WTF, your friends suck!

I couldn't find a new copy of SC3 anywhere so I had to buy a used copy at GameStop, which was my last resort. :(
It has scratches all over it, but surprisingly, the PS2 reads it just fine.
