Yes. I was gonna bring this one up. Blew my mind when I saw those polls. In my head I would have figured the US would have been way past that by the early 90s.
Ditto. I grew up in a very liberal, very racially diverse enclave and it took a while to wrap my head around it.
After I found out I asked my friend when he thought that change in attitudes would have happened, smugly thinking I was going to blow his mind with that piece of trivia. Instead he guessed right and I got to be shocked a second time that he would have gotten it right.
He must have read my facial reaction cause he asked if he was way off by guessing the 90's and I said no, you got it right, I just don't know what the fuck country I've been living in all these years. 
I'm thinking a little more now. And there is still that ugly, really fucking ugly concept of "those N-words are taking our [Capital H hwite] women" that is there to some degree for those who are either overt or covert racist. I remember an old friend (definitely not a friend anymore, for a reason that you will learn very soon) and he never seemed to come off as racist to me. But then my other buddy who was his roommate at the time says that he gets angry when he sees black men with white women.
Anyways, this piece of work also hated the band Nirvana cause Kurt Cobain committed suicide. He saw suicide as cowardly. Obviously, this guy wasn't one for understanding mental health, but ok we we older teens/early 20s. I remember thinking he as a little sketch after that.
But the cherry on top of all this shit is that he went on to join the army. And somehow someway somebody told on him that he had child pornography. I guess the army police (whatever it was, cause I don't think it was just regular cops that caught him) found his stash of this vile shit in his car. Next time I asked about him his old roommate tells me the whole story. My mind is all "
I can't believe he was a fucking pedophile!" Needless to say I don't know if he's still in jail or not, but I cut that dumbfuck out of my life as soon as I heard he was messing with child pornography. That's an instant hard no. Not cool whatsoever in any degree. You download/watch that you are facilitating that market of misery. I don't even know if he's out at this point. I mean he was definitely behind bars for at least 2 years. Maybe it's been 3 years since. I really can't be bothered to know how he's doing.
