I recently watched all of Mann's movies. Hadn't seen Thief. James Caan was great. The end, while badass felt a little unnecessary though.

Getting rid of his wife and kid so unceremoniously to keep them safe, then adopting a scorched earth strategy excising the threat and just walking away. A strong finish in many ways, but then it seems unnecessary to have thrown away his dream life since the threat no longer existed. Loved the collage picture he'd assembled like something you make in primary school summarising his life goals

American Hustle was so...bland. My future wife Amy Adams is in it though so I forgive it.

Jesus, I just looked up the cast. Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner? Those three are like the textbook definition of white people not having to work too hard to get by.

Miami Vice the TV show has some good things in it. If you're sensible to 80 aesthetics you'll get plenty out of it (music tracks and actors passing by), occasionally brilliant visually, never a bore story-wise.

The film... has great visuals. It's a bit all over the place otherwise.

i've never seen the departed and don't really even know what it's about, but i know enough to have the correct opinion that the rat is good actually. or at least this opinion was correct circa 2018, i haven't really kept up since.
