You were an extra? Is it possible to spot you in any of the scenes?
That's kind of wild, any funny stories to share?
So it was the summer after my freshman year, and I think my band director called our house and asked if I was around and not busy. Turns out some movie people had called him and asked if our High School had a marching band. Now... we did in the loosest sense, we marched in a couple local parades, had no uniforms other than polo shirts, and didn't do field shows because we were possibly the poorest school in the district. Anywho, he got probably 3/4s of our band showed up, and we were given sheet music for the song and spent a day learning the song, and then I think we had a few more days to practice it before they took us to a recording studio up in Seattle to record it (with the help of some studio musicians). After that we were told that we would be filming two days, unpaid, because they movie studio agreed to donate money to our school to buy uniforms. I remember that we spent a lot of time in a gym at the school (Stadium, which was once upon a time a hotel), with a bunch of board games and some N64 demo stations with Ken Griffey Jr baseball. And the rest of the time was out in the sun on the astro turf, practicing our field show, doing the field show, resetting, waiting etc etc. During a lot of down time we hung out with Heath Ledger, Andrew Keegan and JGL, throwing around a football and what not. I think we met Julia Stiles a few times. Larisa Oleynik wasn't in the scene also, so that's probably the real reason we never saw her. They ended up needing us for a third day, so we all got paid 1 day, which I think came out to like $60? I used it to buy FF7 for PC.
They actually let us come back and get paid for other scenes as extras if we wanted, but my family had a planned camping trip so I missed out, and I was bummed because I really liked Save Ferris! One of my friends was an extra in the house party scene and he's holding a fake beer can, which pissed off his 7DA mom a lot. The scene where the guy gets money from Heath Ledger, that was our actual drum major.
I'm the trumpet player in sun glasses with the gold mouthpiece. My family moved a few months later, so I did not end up getting my BAND t-shirt, I went back to visit my friends but found out the band director gave my shirt to someone who wasn't even there for the film
