Thread of the indiest indies (itcho.io stuff)

Anyone else sometimes browse all these weird amateur (and free) games? I know the Rusty Lake series started on little stuff this as did some of the other more famous series.

Like I checked out Rottenwood Lake - Made in 4 days by 4 people. Only like 15-20 mins long. But kinda neat? I like the writing and atmosphere even if it loses steam a bit in the end.

There are a series of playable vignettes called Places, some of which I'm quite fond of and most available in-browser. I found that free of any gameplay conceit like collecting things/enemies/etc and along with its real life based sound design I'm less distracted by internal critique and open to just experiencing the mood of the location.

Eg: Place 6, Sketch 3.

One of my friends made this game using an old game creation program called MegaZeux, a slightly move advanced version of ZZT (an ascii-art game creation program which was the first game made by Tim Sweeney). I have made some MegaZeux games back in the day so he wants me to put it up on itch.io but my games have licensed music so I dunno if I'll get flagged. Anyways, play his game, it's pretty fun:

I've mentioned it a few times in the past, but I hardly follow any websites anymore since I just use forums for latest news, but I've been reading this once a week or two for like ten years (used to be called something else)

In my opinion, from the limited spectrum of indie game spotlight places I've seen, this is one of the best ways to discover interesting indie games. If I had the time, I'd honestly be pretty happy to contact them and see if I can join as a writer doing these little indie game preview articles. Kind of a dream job for me, and I say that as someone who spent a couple years as a game reviewer and fucking hated it.
