JayDub: A Retrospective
« on: June 10, 2020, 11:21:40 AM »
It would appear his account has been wiped from our history pages.

Drop your favorite memory, they’re all that’s left

We’re also offering a small reward for any information on the circumstances of his disappearance

You guys complain about certain users but you constantly engage with them in the same endless, repetitive topics making everyone else suffer. It's like, how many times do you need to debate Jaydubya about abortion or governmental philosophy?

JD’s contention with some posters was just so well worn that there was never really much discussion from either side, just a series of pot shots. This always disappointed me, I wanted to see his positions fall apart under full scrutiny, but the cowards just wanted dunks, and JD took to inflammatory comments like a moth

arguing with someone when they'll never change their minds, about a topic you've already been over a trillion times, is just a circlejerk session. boring as shit. insults and belittling are the only thing that can chase away someone like that

I agree but forums seem to thrive on this kind of stuff. This forum often centers around whoever is the resident villain at the moment and whoever decides to troll with them. Feeding the trolls is always gonna be a thing.

For what its worth its not being pro-life or conservative that made Jayduba an awful human being. He was just an awful, close-minded, bigoted person. If you have an ideology at least be willing to recognize when said ideology is failing to deal with certain things. Don't over-compensate by then turning into a caricature of said ideology.

Early in the neogaf days I tried to defend him and other conservatives because even though I detest the ideology I never like a dogpile for people just stating their beliefs as long as those beliefs aren't just fake cover for being shit birds. But the more he posted, the more I realized who and what he was.

I hear ya but the problem is there is a big divide on the conservative side in those that are actually conservative (which can mean multiple things of course) and those that are "conservative" to be racist awful people. That divide was always blurry but in the age of Trump it's been nearly obliterated.

I use to try to play devil's advocate a lot more. And assume the other side was arguing in good faith. But I refuse to do that in the age of Trump. If a person tries to argue these policies are just conservative principled stands, I won't do it. I immediately just fling shit back. Maybe after Trump things will get better in that regard or maybe they will just get a lot worse since so much cover and momentum has been built for this kind of bullshit.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it yet but the quintessential JD moment will always be Mandark getting him to assert that "Natural rights exist because they do"

I spent years not knowing why people hated him so much as I used to not go into political threads. It only took one thread for me to go "oh"

He actually wasn't bad to talk to games about, weirdly enough! (although I never talked bioshock with him, which could have been ages of fun, but oh well)

Like, if I had to pick between him and demi to talk games about, I'd pick JD (demi is not a terrible human being, even though he is an Advent Rising stan)

(I am referring to him sharing personal struggles in a vulnerable thread that were used as pressure points in insults later)

I 100% hear that you don’t have any room in your heart to show a man empathy who regularly used terms and expressed ideas that represent real harm to your safety and livelihood and that of your loved ones for that matter. It also just makes me really sad to see someone who most of you would probably describe as “too far gone” actually make an attempt at a real human moment or connection, only to have all their fear based views confirmed and reinforced. I’m just a dumb naive stoner but I really stan for empathy and connection and people like JD who are so closed off to either just make me sad and I want to crack em into emotionally functioning beings

I can forgive alot but there are a few lines when crossed that for me are just unforgivable. At that point, I just pretty much break contact and just pretend that person doesn't exist no matter what the thread. It's one thing if a teenager is being an idiot. I expect super young people to be really dumb about the world.  It's another thing when a grown ass man is a piece of shit.

Last post. For what its worth, I don't want to act like I'm all perfect and high and mighty. I've made a lot of mistakes on forums over my life. I'm no saint. The only counter I can give to that is that I try to at least learn from my fuck-ups and apologize when I make them.

I remember that. I paid for quite a few abortions in JayDubya’s name.

JayDubya had the same tired schtick for way too long. How is it possible to be exactly the same internet edgelord for 15 years?

Probably for the best, I’m sure all his time now is being taken up in his armed defense of small towns from those BLM thugs and ANTIFA marauders roving the countryside trying to simultaneously dismantle and embolden government overreach.
