Baldur's Gate Trilogy (EET)
« on: June 13, 2020, 02:18:25 AM »
Basically on a mega old game kick and decided to setup something for my next playthrough after I finish my current games. So Baldur's Gate seemed like a good thing to try since I've never beat most of the games. Just thought I would detail it if anybody else was interested in modding the trilogy.

The trilogy mod has been around in some form for quite awhile but the most current incarnations generally involve the enhanced editions trilogy (eet) to stitch together: Baldur's Gate, the Tales of the Sword Coast, Siege of Dragonspear, Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal into one big campaign.

You can do it in a few ways.

#1 is basically how you do if you are just doing the trilogy if you aren't adding mods to it.

https://github.com/K4thos/EET

The other two ways involve adding mods on top of it which is what I did.

#2 is using a modding tool called project infinity. You have a lot of control here but you have to have a lot of knowledge about load orders and such so I passed on it.

#3 is what most people use and what I used and that's EET Mod Install Tool

https://baldursextendedworld.com/Install-Tool/

If you use the install tool, just read the pdf that comes along with it and it will basically step you through it. The tool lists all the mods that work with EET and you basically go through them step by step, one by one, and decide what mods you want. It takes awhile to do that part and you probably will have to look up a lot of stuff to understand some of the mods but honestly that's the fun part as you pick what you want and tailor the game experience to your liking. You still will have to potentially deal with mod conflicts and such but its generally not too hard to figure it out. There are some pre-set default compilation pack settings you can use but I think its better to individually hand pick what you want so you understand what is in your game.

I added alot more mods than what I list below, some old and some new, but just a few of my favorite mods I added this go around:

Portraits Portraits Everywhere: Adds like 4000 portraits to the games for most of the characters. Gives game a ton of personality.

https://baldursgate.fandom.com/wiki/Portraits_Portraits_Everywhere

Sword Coast Strategems: Allows you to improve the difficulty and AI of the game in tons of tweakable ways.

Tweaks Anthology: Collection of mod settings that allow you to customize the experience in too many different ways to list here

https://www.gibberlings3.net/mods/tweaks/tweaks/

Dragonspear UI++

New UI for the game that is way more functional and useful than the default UI.

I played a few sessions just to tweak everything and to make sure it was working and its really enjoyable. It will take me an insanely long time to work my way through the games so its something I will work on between other games.

Finally decent thread if you are looking for good mods.

Interesting, I played BG1 EE last fall for the first time and planning on playing BG2 EE (skipping Dragonspear probably). Would've done this one campaign mod if I knew about it.

I used some mods, but can't remember which ones. I like the UI one in your post.

This is quite the undertaking. See you in 300 hours from now.

I honestly don't see the point of "stitching" everything together. But that's just me.

Siege of Dragonspear was nice and all, but it really didn't need to be made IMO.

I just ordered the Switch version cause the bundles were like 20 euros a pop. (Baldur's Gate 1/2  and Planescape Torment/Icewind Dale.) Should be a good time even if the UI isn't really that suited to a smaller screen.

Obvs this is completely unrelated aside from the fact that it's modding two games into one story, but have you ever tried the mod that turns Fallout 3 and New Vegas into one story, Stoney?

I've modded them individually but I've never used that mod to bridge them. Maybe someday in the future.

For what its worth Fallout New Vegas even by itself has always had a tremendous modding community. I encourage anybody to try out a full build mod around that game. I never liked New Vegas as a base game as much as the community did but the mods turn it into a really great game imo.
