Toxic, Anne Frank and her family lived in an attic for years. A giant bulk of white Americans couldn't last 1-2 months. All they had to do was wear masks and stay in as much as possible. Instead they made it into their own oppression. If they were actually oppressed I'm not sure how long they'd last.

is this some kind of new off-shoot of Godwin's law?
The reality of Covid is it has hit Americans unequally. There's a huge divide in it's impact among rural vs urban, coastal regions vs inland areas, etc etc. But we've all shared the same economic pain and that pain is even more acute in rural areas where most enterprises barely scrape by in good times.
The reality of Covid, the virus, will eventually equalize across the country over the course of the year(s), but for right now there are tens of millions of Americans where the impact/fear has been zero. So when you have a centralized and urban government telling these people how to live and limiting their livelihoods, you're going to have a good chunk that wants to push back. That's what you saw play out, along with the opportunists hoping to cash in.
"Live Free or Die" isn't just a bumper sticker for some people, they take it literally. This also doesn't touch on the mental health problem in America that has only gotten worse in the last 10-20 years as suicide rates have increased. This pandemic response has added more fuel to that ever increasing fire.
edit: Context
Suicide rates among middle-aged white women in the U.S. have soared since the early 2000s. Rates for white women have increased across all age groups, but they are the highest among those ages 35-64. Between 1999 and 2017, rates among white women increased by 87% for ages 15-24, 65% for ages 25-34, 52% for ages 35-44, 82% for ages 45-54, 92% for ages 55-64, and 16% for those ages 65 and older. Overall, rates among white women are highest for those ages 45-54, reaching an unprecedented rate of 14.3 deaths per 100,000 white women in 2017. The suicide rate among white men has also increased significantly since the early 2000s and stands at about 2.5 times higher than the rate for white women. Among both men and women, suicide rates for blacks, Hispanics, and Asians are much lower than those for whites.
