Games you don't remember anything about
« on: June 22, 2020, 08:05:20 PM »
I was bored, looking for bargain bin deals,so I bought Far Cry 4 used for three bucks. When I wanted to put it onto my shelf I realized that I not only own that game, but according to my trophies, I must have invested a couple of hours into it. I don't remember anything about the game. Which are some games you played relatively recently but remember nothing about?

Good thing is that I can play it again and act like it's a new game. That won't happen until 2028 or so when I have the time for it.  :doge

I can get behind this.

Pretty much 95% of videogames fall into this category with me. Like RE3 Remake is like wtf is this, I don't remember anything!

Billy Hatcher
Devil Summoner
Pokémon X
Voodoo Vince
Custom Robo
Megaman Battle Network

Not actual spoilers, but will get people mad

The first case of all the Phoenix Wright games, which I played all on hacked  carts and can’t remember anything besides you’re in an airport for a bit and there’s a psychic in one of them

Oh yeah X/Y were bland as hell. I remember goofy shit like AZ (due to the meme), but not like, anything else... and I think that's one of the two games I've completed the Natonal Dex in (the other being SoulSilver.)

I rented and played through the majority of PS2 and Gamecube games, but my memory of each game basically boils down to a general feel or quality with a few exceptions.

One time on a Christmas break I played all the way through Arcania: Gothic 4 because it was so shitty and I had already paid for it on a steam sale. I remember nothing other than hating it.

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams- I know I beat this game but I don't remember anything about the mechanics or story
Chaos Legion- You had weird ghost soldiers who you could control. It was basically a proto-Astral Chain/off brand DMC with a super boring story -Nevermind, I did remember a little bit.
A few of the Pokemon games are just a blur. I remember fuck all about Pearl off the top of my head, other than some of the music.
“WiiWare” reminds me I don’t remember anything about My Life as King
oooohhh, this is another good one. I know I played a ton of this game but can't recall much about it.

“WiiWare” reminds me I don’t remember anything about My Life as King, SoulCalibur Wii, and that one WiiWare series based of the guy with the red wrestler head that talked weird

The spinoff Wii games could probably be 50% of this thread. Does anyone remember Castlevania Judgment? With SoulCal they took a fighting series and made an adventure spinoff, with CV they took an adventure series and made a fighting spinoff. :dizzy

And they went through the trouble of contracting the Death Note artist to make all-new CV character designs, which were promptly forgotten and never used again, and IIRC Judgment was just left as a Wii exclusive... Unless you were looking stuff up on Castlevania's wikipedia page you'd probably never hear about or encounter it normally in a gaming community.

i wonder how bad that game bombed. I've never even heard of anyone playing it except for series diehards that picked it up cheap just to write up message board impressions. it had to be like metroid federation force levels of bomb.

The fact it was never ported says it all IMO. The game even supported GameCube and Classic Controllers so any kind of "Wii controls prevent porting a la Skyward Sword" theory goes out the window.

The game had a decent amount of content IIRC and looked quite good for a Wii game, and yeah the art style/lead artist pedigree alone would make it an attractive I dunno, 3DS/Vita/mobile port or some shit (if they couldn't be asked to really HDify it.)

Talking pre "peace out videogames" Konami. Was there ever a Castlevania collection put out?

there are a few recent collections out there, and they include nearly all of the CV releases from SoTN and earlier. one of the ps2 games got a rerelase on ps3, but that's it for everything released after 1997. damn shame.

Some F2P shit I played in the mid 2000s. Other than that, I can weirdly remember specific things for pretty much everything I've played. Shit, even with random shovelware from my childhood it's more that I forgot the names, not the actual games. On the other hand, I couldn't tell you shit about a couple of movies I saw a month ago on Netflix.  :doge

Malice was a game that was so utterly mediocre that I can barely remember anything from it. Originally a big title with Gwen Stefani doing VO for the main character, it ended up being complete crap. There was one boss which had a ring-track around the outside, and it was a timing puzzle to navigate correctly in order to damage the boss in the center. That's the only thing I can remember, other than many levels were just greybox designer geo that had textures applied. Ugly as hell. I think it was an xbox exclusive that MS later dumped, so they made sure it could run on PS2 as well. That was probably disruptive.

Dark Void, I can somewhat remember a cover-based assault while jetpack climbing the outer wall of a citadel. If that sounds cool: it was. It was the only cool part of the entire, game, the rest of which was wholly uninspired trek through lame ass mountains. Again, a game with promise: interesting 1930s gasoline-flight inspired jetpack Indy Jones stuff. Neat. And then, just utter crap cookie-cutter gameplay.

One of the Monsterboy remakes, I think there’s more than one. I was bored shitless with the game. As I was going through my stack of Switch games, I saw it and forgot I even had it. You could probably lump in most indie platformers and any game where the only hook is nostalgia.

There are so many c-64 games that fall in this category for me. Interchangeable RPGs that had nondescript plot lines. Times of Lore, Tangled Tales, most of the SSI Gold Box series. My only memories are the UI or some box or manual art.

the games I tend not to remember are ones I didn't finish, which probably means they weren't very memorable/good games  :doge

Tales of Phantasia on GBA, a remake of one of the early Tales games that I think was on the SNES?  what I remember: the big remake feature was that the characters were all voiced and would not shut up during battle, which was like a side scrolling fighter (similar to how modern Tales is a 3D fighter), I know nothing about the plot

the third Golden Sun game, which I don't remember its subtitle if it had one, I can't even say for sure if it was on DS or 3DS.  what I remember: the game was brown and rocky cliffs and came out past the point where I could put up with the endless trite dialogue style of the first 2, and from what people say of the game the entire plot is about repairing a hang glider which you get derailed on and never quite get around to doing

I don't think they could've made Golden Sun 3 any less challenging and generic so I'm not surprised you don't remember it.

Tales of Phantasia's plot was basically every big 16-bit Square game combined:

Time travel (going back into the past to defeat Dhaos)
Your party's ancestors sealing off the big bad evil
A giant magical tree
Magic disappearing from the world

It was an extremely impressive technological feat (so many original environments and tilesets, amazing quality music, a vocal theme song, tons of voice samples), and fun to play, but plot originality it did not have. The GBA version sucked ass, the fast and zippy battle systems of the SNES (and the slightly slower PS1) versions were so much better than the sluggish, slowdown-filled battle system of this one. And the translation sucked too, I'd rather deal with Dejap's super silly translation of the SNES one over the official GBA one.

Ys 5 I barely have any memory about. The weakest point in the franchise, maybe Ys 3 is a bit shittier as a 'game' but at least it had memorable music and vivid graphics.
