I was thinking that terms like "externalities" or "the environment" or, e.g., "nonlinear" interactions are a neat trick because they kind of have the feeling of just another special interest niche category that probably won't ever matter in practice but they in fact mean "everything else" other than what's captured within some narrowly constituted system.

To them, casting spells, doing rituals with candles and herbs, praying to Goddesses, is how they express their religious nature. Just as a Christian woman might pray to God to cure her sick sister, or ask if God can send angels to bless her home, these witches pray to Athena, or Gaia, or the Moon for similar reasons.

Many of them genuinely believe in their religion, even if it seems strange and odd to others. So the twitter thread there is mostly that a group of young people, primarily organized on Tiktok are practicing their faith in ways they don't feel appropriate. It's like a religious divide between Catholics and Protestants.

One thing to point out is that the majority of the modern Witches don't actually believe that they can throw fireballs or turn men into pigs, but rather believe that by invoking the magical forces, they can bless or curse people with good or bad luck.

But yeah, the issue here is that a young group of witches did rituals and ceremonies that an older group of witches disapproved of, and discussed it on twitter.
