2016 and its lasting effects on you
« on: August 14, 2020, 09:19:04 PM »
For a few years I was racist to white people so after 2016 I read think piece after think piece that said saying stuff like ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE RACIST lead to white resentment and therefore handed trump the election. We know now that's not true but for a while it was an actual narrative. Few months later I'm full of guilt and look for a church. I ended up going to a Catholic church and confessed my sins. Catholic church being more conservative  and me being convinced of my own sinfulness from racism went down the deep end into conservatism and self hate. I'm lucky I got out.

Lesson: go to therapy rather than church, kids.

What about y'all?

Not much, other than more jaded about the direction this country is headed in.

I haven't written any lyrics since the day Trump was elected. Last thing I wrote was something on the topic of empathy and considering other people than just yourself.

Who knows, maybe I'll be inspired to start writing again after he is voted out.

I accidentally posted a thread with a poll about chicken korma vs katsu curry. At that time I didn't think of the implications of putting two Asian cultures against one another. I was being insensitive. I'm glad the thread got locked.

I'll strive to be better and I promise it won't happen again.

As morbid as it is to say, the best thing that has happened to Prince's legacy is him passing away. All that footage that's been locked away has been able to see the light and he's made an entire new generation of fans because of it.

To quote Joe Bidet: Nothing will fundamentally change, for me.

Still wish I was dead daily. Lost all hope in the government/both parties.

OH BUT I GOT A CERTIFICATION THOUGH! (Which expires next year, and hasn't been put to use because nobody will hire because "lol no experience")

I wonder if I should get into "bug chasing," and get AIDS or the Coronavirus at this point.</morbid>

Don't do it. You'd probably just end up with a ton of medical debt and not actually die.

I do like that so much of the material is on Spotify, for sure. The Gold Experience album is missing the big hit "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" for example. Probably due to a legal issue rather than the estate not wanting it available. Happens. Sometimes gets resolved out of the blue. Like Guns N Roses had some tracks missing due to one of the co-writers... something. I don't even know what, but then one day those tracks were once again streamable.

Now if we can see that movie that Kevin Smith shot for him.  :hyper  :lol

Got out of a long 3 year relationship where the woman became increasingly annoying, clingy, and depressive.

Yup. I didn't grow up with Prince but the material they released I hadn't experienced made me into a fan. Before he died all they played was Little Red Corvette and Purple Rain.
