For some utterly inane reason, restarting the computer broke my wifi.

I unplug the USB wifi stick and plug it back in.

And here I am.

I just don't have problems with Windows 10..at least once they made it so the Start menu didn't turn your machine into a giant iPad.

Changing start menu constantly. Doubles-up the Settings/Old Control Panel menus and doesn't consolidate them five years into Windows 10. Updates that break every patch Tuesday because Nadella and his Indian coding army doesn't have a QA team anymore (hello, files being deleted after an update that people YELLED at MS to fix during a BETA patch process of that, they didn't, launched it: YEP ATE FILES). Installing shit that I don't want (Edge, which I uninstalled only for it to reinstall and remove the uninstall option next update), every update. Said installing shit is entirely redundant (Paint/Paint3D, which if I'm using Photoshop CS2, doesn't need to be there).

Forces you to go through their shitty walled garden launcher (which wouldn't be horrible if the fucking store wasn't HORRIBLE and UWP apps didn't eat themselves/cause problems [hello, PSO2!]) to install Linux distros that aren't Ubuntu in the newer WSfL's. Or use that to install the Windows Terminal update that allows you to have Powershell, DOS/Command Prompt, Linux terminal all in one window. Or installing the Chocolate like automation installer scripts that MS made [forgetting the name off-hand].

We got a new printer at work and I set it up to default with double sided and stapled. Simply enough right.

After much trouble, the IT nerds figured out that if you use devices and printers to set the default it worked, but if you use printers and scanners to access the exact same options it woulnt work.

I haven't had a problem with Teams or Outlook, though I only use those sparingly in my enterprise work. Honestly, Slack is Teams is Discord to me: They're all the same and work for what they want to do: Group-based chat programs.

Oh, I know. But you'd think after five years from launch they'd drop the legacy applications/windows for that shit and have a superior option: Thing is, they don't. Meanwhile, they cram Candy Crush, Minecraft, et. al. down your throat on new installs... unless you're the Enterprise version.

Which reminds me: Group Policy is in even the Home edition of Windows 7-10, but they hide it unless you go online to find a download for the application to unlock that. It's like "why?" Same with the Virtual Machine shit, AFAIK it's in Windows 10 home but dummied out. Pro and above can use their VM (though who uses that over VMWare?)

i haven't really enjoyed the direction osx has taken since bertrand serlet left and the ios team started calling the shots on ux/ui.

i use windows because it kinda does everything now. it's got a lot of legacy shit bogging it down though of course. it's really funny reading people complaining about "settings" vs "control panel". there are a lot of overlapping parts, and yeah, best to just use the panel whenever you can. both are quickly just becoming thin client interfaces to the real backbone of the internet anyway: Linux.

All I know is, they force installed the Chromnium Edge version on my install, I had the option to uninstall is so I did. Next patch Tuesday (more like Friday), update: Edge is back like a cancer.

my biggest gripe with windows atm is how much hassle it is to get sleep mode to work properly. i cant even remember how i fixed mine, but it involved some real bullshit and blocking system access to some files and functions otherwise it would wake itself up without fail in the middle of the night (was particularly annoying as when covid hit i gave our spare room toa  friend... who is still here so my wfh pc setup is in the bedroom still and sometimes i just want to leave all my shit up and sleep the pc). it wasn't just disabling wake timers, but blocking updateorchestrator entirely.

You can literally have it create a Teams meeting for every meeting.. the meetings show up both places..  if someone is contacting you on Teams and you don't response, an email is sent to you...

If I want to start a screen share call to clear something up, i have to click window, then teams, which opens a new tab, then find them, then call.

Or I just paste my private zoom room

Where you have icons to do shit, but now theres a second start menu that pops up when you roll over an icon, so it hides your quick launch menu, just to tell you what an icon means every fucking time.
