Assalamu alaikkum. Friends, colleagues, and my fellow Americans, 19 years after the darkest day in American history, we must ask ourselves: was Osama bin Laden right? I say this with the utmost compassion for all victims of all terrorist attacks. And I do not mean right as in right action, but right as in having reasonable grievances.
Was Osama not right about US support for Israel denying Palestinians their freedom and land? Is this not a crime against God and all Muslims?
Was Osama not right about US arrogance toward the Arab world? Does this arrogance not come from the widespread sin and evil in American society?
Was Osama not right about all Americans being complicit in the policies of his government? For if America is a democracy then all Americans sanction all actions taken by their representatives. And surely decades of policy continuity show that Americans do not disapprove of this policy.
Is it not true that tens, even a hundred times the amount of American deaths have been murdered in the Arab world unjustly and without provocation? And if this is true, is a retaliation so dastardly, so impossible to understand?
Is it so wrong to admit that evil wages war against the good, and so the good must in turn wage war against evil, even if that battle is impossible to win? Is this not what jihad is? Is this not the highest calling of all humanity, to sacrifice your life in the pursuit of justice?
With these and other such facts in your mind, I hope you will reconsider this day and what it means.
