Nintex lied to you;
on purpose, not to deceive you, me or anyone else for that matter: he was just playing his character, wearing his mask. He is far from being tang'd, or absorbed into an Eva for that matter. In fact, I am kind of glad they scratched the original series' mature Shinji for Rebuild's more naive one, as my ex-boyfriend being the latter makes much more sense than Nintex. I would not have been able to cope with the idea Nintex was actually on the side of Mass-Production Evangelions, SEELE, Keel Lorenz and NERV.
What irritates me is that I have no idea who to liken him to in this day and age. I just don't see him as Mari, not to mention Nintex doesn't like the character at all. We know nothing about her other than she might be Shinji and Asuka's love child from a different timeline. It's unfortunate Nintex might end up being "nothing" but Toji, just like in Evangelion 2 for PS2...
