To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.

That is alchemy's first law of equivalent exchange.

Humans are nothing but a resource, and if we don't use them they'll spread like weeds!

You can't change reality! Only your perception! Tell me what you think you could actually change?

The nature of their species? They will always be weak and frightened creatures!

We will change! Because we can change. I know it!

We may be weak, but we just have to be. If not, then we wouldn't have any reason to grow. To get strong.

And if that's not enough, if you're still convinced we can't change...

Then think about us. And all of the days we spent with our family in Risembool.

I like both series equally :shh

I can't defend the OG series to the people that hate it, but I honestly think it was groundbreaking at the time and still holds up well today.

OG series 100% has the better OST though, won't argue there. Also a better (or "more relevant") post-series OVA.

OG series has a way better direction in sound and visuals. They segregated out the comedy bits into gag episodes or sectinons so it doesn't undercut the mood like broho and manga.  The first few episodes were mindblowing first time i saw it. great mood and great pacing, it's just that the story in the second half is distinguished mentally-challenged.

brotherhood on the other hand has awful rushed pacing, flat lighting and colors. but the second half has a great payoff. idk

one of the goat manga. the only shonen stuff i own is this and hxh

The OG took itself so damn seriously at the end that started to hurt. The manga had a full shonen ending but at least it felt satisfying given the misery of the second half of the OG series.

Ed fucking kills envy with kindness in the Manga while anime Ed chokes at the last minute.

At least the main villainess of the OG Anime is hot (when she transfers her body to her maid and not the decay obviously).

I didn’t finished brotherhood because the first episodes really sucked.

The OG series is not bad at all, but is way inferior to the manga if only because the manga decided to have coherence at the end rather than last minute misery porn.

You should definitely give Brotherhood another shot, maybe even jump in later because those first couple episodes do suck, but it finds its footing by I wanna say episode 13? And it just ramps and ramps and ramps from there.

I give the shonen anime crown to Hunter x Hunter 2011, but Brotherhood is definitely right there too.

Monster is one of the few anime series i genuinely loved.
A bit too cheesy at times, but the highs are great.
Incredible soundtrack, too.

I tried watching FMA, but the loud obnoxious screaming humor was too much for me, also am not into the whole Shonen dynamic of power levels and shit like that, and even if FMA is a more serious story, a lot of run time is still dedicated to that shit, from what i watched.

Brotherhood is a little out there to me. I like it but I prefer the OG.

Makes me wish Bones would go back and do the rest of Soul Eater since they did this.

Monster also has a strong homoerotic undercurrent, so you should watch it for that, too.

Kind of one sided and creepy undertones (intentional, btw).

Nah, he just not interested in relationships in general. Pretty sure the intention is more of a father figure in the reader eye. (His name is a big Astroboy reference) I can see Johan having a sexual attraction to him but is part of his creepiness.

Man, I forgot how dark Monster actually is, but Tenma and co. keeps the series becoming a misery porn to a ridiculous degree.

It has many uplifting moments.
You need that contrast for them to hit better.

Also it has some overtly cheesy moments (like the dialog in the woods with the ex Nazi soldier).

When this hits though :'( :
