It looks pretty good. I like the artstyle of these 2DHD games, but I just don't have the energy for jrpgs these days.

They did 1 and 2... in Japan only... Have the fan patched English ones on my phone (but run not so great on the PS2 emu), but still... I feel they're more than worthy to get this 2D HD treatment like this game.

Evermore reason PS needs similar treatment, but Sega still hasn't found a proper direction.

Did they announce what platforms this DQ remake? I would be totally ok with this 2D HD treatment for pretty much any old school JRPG... I agree, I probably wouldn't have the time and energy for them either, but would like to see it regardless.

Not yet but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Switch will be one of them

But nowadays, the DQ series isn't shying away from multiplat. Wouldn't be surprised if it was available for all of em.

I mean it's stylized.

I could do with some PC options to turn off certain effects, but I'm ok with how it looks.

I love the HD2D look. DQIII HD looks like they toned down the depth-of-field effect a bit.
Animation surprisingly looks a step down from the SFC remix, with less frames of animation.

I think DQ11 is now chronologically the first game followed by 3. But you should be fine just playing 3.

Well, if you never played it before, DQ3 holds up pretty well. It propagated a lot of RPG traditions that are still in use today.

The Square side of SE does not give a shit at all about game preservation, just money.

Whereas the Enix side like Kawazu is actually run by artists who go out of their way to maintain the artistic quality of old games in new versions. Which is why the DQ stuff and SaGa stuff is quality and the FF stuff is ugly stick outside FF4.

That doesn't explain Mana though since Legend of Mana remaster actually looks solid effort and the collection of Mana ports were fine and the Mana 3 remake was fine. I guess whoever the Mana producer is cares about this stuff too.

So it's just the FF producers going lollll, though didn't the torch of FF producer just get transitioned to Kitase? Maybe things will get better, idk.

Actually, yeah you're right about that. For some reason I thought SaGa was an Enix property.

Guess it's more of a producer thing than a Square or Enix thing.

Pretty similar as they're both pretty orthodox turn based RPGs but DQ3 has less puzzles and is a lot less chatty than Golden Sun.
