What's the Nintendo General Discussion all about? Every thread warrants a reminder, since all are welcome new and old. Recapping what has been said, this thread is a place for all speculation on upcoming Nintendo products and discussion of existing ones, parallel to the comparable threads for Sony and Microsoft. This is intended to be a welcoming, inclusive, and friendly place to discuss Nintendo in general, and particularly whatever Hot New Topic (tm) they bring today.
On the Nintendo Switch (OLED model): The new Nintendo Switch model was revealed today! Even as we hit the second half of the Nintendo Switch's life cycle, rumors of a Nintendo Switch Pro have already hit fever pitch (and maybe even deflated a little after E3), Nintendo surprises us in the most Nintendo way possible with the announcement of a third pillar in their current family of hybrid handheld/home console products: The Nintendo Switch (OLED model)!
As expected, discourse will come. Eventually the surprise will wear off but there will still be much debate and discussion about who is going to make the upgrade and who is going to wait it out with their current model. It appears this is not the killer upgrade many of us have wanted and expected - but that's not to say it doesn't bring any value. For handheld play, we've got a crisp and clear 7" OLED screen, better stereo speakers, and an actually good kickstand. For TV play we have a new Ethernet port on the dock, removing the USB 2.0 bottleneck allowing for much better internet connections.
Safety and inclusivity are primary goals of this thread. Past and future debate topics will continue to be discussed, so let's keep in mind that the people on the other side of these conversations are humans. The best thing we can do to maintain our own individual and collective mental health is to continue to give people the benefit of the doubt, not assume malcontent, and take words at face value. Ending a heated argument is not losing. If anything, everybody wins.
So, it must be said. As should already be known, there are plenty of existing guidelines and warnings about conversational boundaries, but let's go over the important stuff as a refresher starting with the banner that was just updated today:
We understand the Oled Switch announcement goes against some of the insider leaks. Being disappointed and upset with some of the those leaks and insider sources is fine, but direct call-outs / hostility towards any insiders will be met with moderation. On our general mental health: Give yourself and everyone else some room to breathe. Long-time friend of the thread and wise sage Raccoon gave us some poignant thoughts on our tendency to let our online presence interfere with our rational decision-making and social boundaries.

On treating insiders as human beings: Someday we won't need this section, but unfortunately we're not quite there yet. This thread takes personal respect very seriously. It's okay to feel anger toward others, but you are responsible for how you act. On Trans rights: Yes, this needs to be said. I feel very strongly about this subject and maintain that we continue spreading our message of support for those inside and outside of this thread who identify as trans. OP's corner: Every once in a while I'll update this section with whatever the frig I want. Every funny quote, comments, and meme, or whatever I deem worthy of sharing in the OT.
