i used to be a consumer whore but seeing how meaningless everything is--material things that is.

i'm buying fewer games, clothes, and overall crap and it feels good.

a bike ride, a cone of ice cream, a beach trip, a park visit.  all cheap, low to no cost and very fulfilling.

why would you spend money on a fleeting ice cream that you probably forget about two days later when you could instead spend your money on something lasting and permanent you can cherish forever

like here you are a week later, slightly-ice-cream-infused, a couple bucks poorer and none the better for it

instead you could be like hey man check out this really cool pewter wizard I bought, and now we can both appreciate its beauty, unlike your selfish single serve forgotten ice cream

When it first started I was drastically cutting back on buying shite but I'm now back up to my old tricks. Just put in a few ebay bids on some cib NES/SMS games.
Unfortunately, the retro market massively exploded during the rona but there are still some OK deals out there.

I stopped buying stuff for a while, but then I started buying stuff again because I'm a cuck for capitalism. :'(

Chairs, tables, smart lights, robot vacuum cleaner, headset, games, 4k blu rays, toilet paper... just ordered new glasses and sunglasses. I bought more things this year than ever before to get ahead of the inflation

So far it worked out, most things I bought went up in price 10% - 20% the week after.

I live so ascetically to start with it'd be pretty much impossible to buy even less. Unless I started growing my own vegetables or something, but fuck that. Possessions never really gave me much happiness, I suppose i'm either lucky or unlucky in that regard, depending on how you look at it.

I do regret not buying a new GPU before the prices spiked. I was going to buy a can of air duster to clean my old GPU, so I looked up how much my GPU was worth. You know how much it was worth? The same as two cans of air.

During this I bought two +1300 euros chairs. A vr headset. A rtx 3090. An iPad pro. A s21 ultra. A Ps5 (well two but I scalped one). And a fucking laptop. Some of it has been good, and something I needed. Like chairs and the laptop. But mostly it has just been a waste of money, in some desperate attempt to entertain myself while I couldn't go to festivals and so on.

But I'm done now, cause I lost my job
