We actually just switch the comma and dots around (or don't use them).
So two thousand ninety-nine Euro and ninety-five cents becomes:
€ 2.999,95

In holland we usually round numbers, leave out the dots and currency signs and end things with a dash.
So this:
€ 2.999,00

Becomes this
2999,-

We generally don't use the dots until the numbers exceed 100k.

When we still had our own beautiful Guldens and not his hyperinflated fake monopoly money it looked like this

ƒ 2999,-
