I didn't like it much and dropped it pretty fast. Reviews for 2 aren't great either. Lots of 7s/8s. Nice spritework but seems like a so-so metroidvania when there are a dozen other better indie metroidvanias you could play instead.

Idk what's on Switch. You played Hollow Knight.

And see which are on switch and you haven't played.

I think some of those ones aren't great like Axiom, but everyone likes different ones. Some people don't like Hollow Knight which is really weird.

I finished the first game and I also didn't like it much. It's an impressive effort for a single developer, but less fun than other similar games.

I'll wait for positive reviews before I pick this up.

AV is cool if you can play it via gamepass or cop it for like $10. There being stuff made by IGA and an an actual 2D Metroid on the way now weakens the case for the once seemingly endless flood of indie games doing the same thing a bit.

Note for Sceneman- Shantae Half Genie Hero isn't a Metroidvania.  It has set levels with different paths that open up when you get new abilities.  So it's more like Mega Man X than Metroid.  The other Shantae games are more akin to Metroidvanias, though.

I liked the first Axiom reasonably enough - very impressive feat from a single dev, and I liked how it threw some of my expectations of being a straight Metroid clone out the window. That being said, the boss fights were bad (repetitive patterns and took too long) and there was a bit too much backtracking even for a game in this genre.
