Prepping for winter shortages?
« on: October 13, 2021, 02:36:30 PM »
Dad called the other day and said I should start stocking up on stuff, as shortages are coming.

I did some independent research (read Nintex posts) and can confirm many people are talking about this.

Finding the delicious Dr Pepper Cream Soda Zero Sugar is is more difficult than ever.

I think next time I hit the store, Im going to double the amount of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese boxes I usually get.

Anyone else making adjustments?

COUNTERPOINT

Quote
Data from late September that 16% of beverages, 14% of snack foods and 14% of frozen items were out of stock at the nation's grocery stores, according to Information Resources, Inc.

Large retailers Costco and Sam's Club have started limiting how many paper and cleaning products customers can purchase. The country's largest retailer, Walmart, has taken measures like chartering its own cargo ships, diverting shipments and hiring more than 20,000 permanent supply chain workers to help ensure products get delivered on time and the shelves are stocked.

With that in mind, here are tips to buying food and gifts during the holiday season.

--Start shopping now for nonperishables you will need for holiday dinners.
--Consider buying and freezing items like turkey and other meat when you see them in stock.
--Look for generic brands as a substitute for out-of-stock items.
--Build the price increases into your budget because meals and gifts will most likely cost more this year.

I'm planning to buy Christmas presents a bit earlier this year.
Other than that I've also noticed some products are harder to find these days.
Plus shrinkflation is going into overdrive, I swear some packaging has been cut in half. It's ridiculous.

Also Nintendo actually had to delay the release of the Metroid Amiibo by a month because of shipping issues.

Energy crisis is a real thing here as well. Co-worker of mine went from 90 Euro a month, to 160 Euro a month.
That's almost double the energy costs  :doge Not to mention driving, our gas price sits at 2 Euro or a liter or $8,76(!) a gallon.
Can you imagine paying 10 bucks for a gallon of fuel? And EU climate czar Frans Timmermans has proposed a climate plan that will send energy prices soaring even further.

The 'new normal' fucking sucks. I can't imagine how it must be for poor people, are there even enough tents for sale right now?

Just wanted to note that I started hoarding toilet paper a full month before the great toilet paper shortage of March 2020.

And Ive had a bidet since 2016.

But my butt hole is extra sensitive so I have these delivered with great frequency. And yes, they used to cost ~$15

I had the foresight to take some of these bad boys to Portugal with me. The toilet paper in that country is eastern european

Download your videogames now.

FEMA will cut the public phone and fibre lines to prevent any uprising, but power will be left alone. Worst case they might turn the power off at 11pm, so keep your Switch docked until then.

Glass bottles used for everything from vinegar to pasta sauces are getting tied up in their own bottlenecks. That's driving prices higher, when you can get the bottles at all.

Just like many other industries struggling to secure supplies, producers of pasta sauce and high-end spirits are seeing the glass used in their humble containers tied up in massive cargo jams, and that's forcing them to either absorb the higher costs or pass them on to consumers.

We started stocking up on canned and dry stuff. We haven't gone mental about it. We just bought a few extra things each week until we had enough stored to comfortably last a month. Anyone who went through last year's panic buying/shortages and didn't learn from it is an idiot. No doubt the same kind of idiot who will be out rushing around panic buying when the shit hits the fan again.

There's three kinds of people in the world in these types of situations.

The morons who stockpiled.

The dumbasses who rushed for panic buying.

And folks like me who did none of the above and were just fine, business as usual.

There's gonna be no shortages, 2 years of lockdown has made sure no one has any fucking money to over-stock on rice and bog roll. Bastards.

I'm starting to think the media has declared war on Joe Bloggs. They gained a lot of views/clicks over covid and are determined to create any new panic they can. I can get anything I want here in ground zero Brexit land, they're full of shit.

Nicca's you shut the ports and a big fucking ship blocked the suez for a week. There's gonna be a couple of months lead time on your rubber dildo from alibaba.
