Dammit, this is the first time in months I'll be able to say I won't be picking up any new releases. What with Civil War #4 and the tie-ins delayed until September, and JLA #1 pushed back to next week -- my wallet will be remain fat this Wednesday.

Lost Girls S&N Edition
Top Shelf Comics)
May 9, 2006

Official Press Release

Alan Moore's LOST GIRLS Signed and Numbered Edition

Hey Comics Fans,

Big news in Top Shelf land. After 16 years in development, the complete LOST GIRLS by Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie has finally shipped to the printer, and will be hitting stores in August!

This will be the most expensive book Top Shelf has ever published, with the first printing costing us almost $200K. Why so expensive? Because Lost Girls will be published as three, 112-page, super-deluxe, oversized (9" x 12") clothbound hardcover volumes, each wrapped in a beautiful dust jacket, with all three volumes sealed and shrink-wrapped in a gorgeous slipcase. The entire epic published -- all at once -- as an art object for the ages.

And to help raise the money to pay for this print run, we've decided to offer a Signed & Numbered edition, limited to 500 copies, that will be autographed by both Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie. This is a Top Shelf website exclusive, and the money raised through this advance sale will allow us to finance the project.

Advance orders of this special edition will ship out as soon as they arrive from the printer. But please note that this special edition will likely sell out before the summer release date, and quite possibly within days of this announcement, so pre-ordering is highly recommended.

To see what the slipcase and volumes will look like, click on either edition below and then click on PREVIEW.

Is there a date.  Moriarty on AICN said there's a scene in Peter Pan where Michael and John are sucking each other off, and Peter is banging Wendy at the same time.  This is like White Man's dream story.

Is the Age of Apocolypse ever coming back? Or something like it?
X-Men got lame a long time ago, they should have stayed in the AoA world forever.

Dude, fuck X-Men.  We're talking about homosexual incestual fictional encounters!

Also, apparently the book opens up with Alice (from Wonderland) seducing Dorothy (from Oz) and Wendy (from Pan), and they get it on in some hot lesbian orgy.

Amazon has it listed for August 30th. Honestly, I've been waiting a long time for this one, but there's a part of me that doesn't really want to read it. I mean, I could be scarred for life by this shit  :-\

If John and Michael are sucking each other off, and that's being discussed, I can only imagine what other depraved things Moore has written in.  I think Dorothy's recollection of Oz will have her being fucked by trees and a full gay orgy between the Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Lion guy.

Damn, I guess its not too bad that nothing of importance is out this week -- I need to save my cash for what's coming at the end of the month. Shit, I can see almost ten books I want next week, let alone Lost Girls and my usual lot the week after. Yikes  :-X

Yup, CW #4 (and a handful of tie-ins like ASM) have been pushed back to the first week of September, because Joe Quesada was too busy sucking off Colbert and eating submarine sanwiches at the 'Con to oversee production. Though, I hear it's really because they're changing the original ending to number four  :D

EDIT -- Thunderbolts is still coming, as is X-Men. Tie-ins scheduled the week CW #4 was supposed to drop and after have been delayed...

The greatest achievement Moore has ever done, in my opinion, is still Miracleman.  I've read the original run, in comic form and I don't think I've ever been so captivated.  That needs to be a movie.

Of course I've read Watchmen.  It's fanastic.

Miracleman is better.  And has one of the greatest all-time villains to boot.  I'm sure there are scans somewhere.  I hear the litigation bullshit around it has been settled, and with Gaiman at Marvel, it's due to be republished soon.

But the climatic battle is fantastic.  And the villain, what can I say.  If they made a movie -- he'd bitch slap Vader.

See their final battle - then come back to me.

Miracleman would make a badass trilogy, just leave of Gaiman's run.  Which isn't bad, but so different in tone to Moore's, which is exceptional.

Yeah, what happened was that MacFarlane bought the rights and wouldn't let anyone publish them, even though somehow they were tied to Gaiman (he wrote the run following Alan Moore's run, which was never finished).  Gaiman won the lawsuit against MacFarlane for not giving him rights on certain Spawn characters, and part of the litigation allowed MacFarlane to continue use of Gaiman's characters if he handed over the Miracleman rights.  Now, I believe, Gaiman is trying to finish up his run so he can have Marvel republish the series in its finished glory.

I befriended the LCS manager a few years back, who had spent hundreds of dollars tracking down each issue and let me borrow 'em.  I tell you, what Moore did there is so different from Watchmen.  In Watchmen, he turned the superhero concept upside down.  In Miracleman, he creates, quite possibly, the definitive superhero concept.  And what makes it work is the villain is so evil, so awesome, that you have no choice but to be captivated, even when Moore turns up the destruction and collateral damage all the way up to 11.

And it's so cinematic, and easily the most simple of Moore's works to adapt to screen, that the first person to faithfully adapt Moore's run will give us all the best superhero film put on celluoid.

Shit, Gaiman and McFarlane need to go the couples' therapy or something. Their legal problems not only took Miraclemen off the shelves, but made issues #9 and #10 of Spawn unable to be reprinted  :-\

Well this sounds interesting. I'm definitely going to check out Moore's work. V for Vendetta is such a sweet movie, and I want to know more about the plot.

I used to be a huge comic fanboy. I was mainly into X-Men; I collected X-Men and Uncanny X-Men. I got into both comics shortly before the Onslaught thing, which was amazing to me. I realize many people didn't like it, but as a kid it really grabbed me. I continued reading both comics for a long time, that is...until the X-Men movie came out.

During the buildup to the movie I noticed a clear change in the comic. Marvel seemed intent on making sure people who liked the movie would like the comic (sales sales sales), so it was dumbed down. At that point, each character devolved back to the days where he/she would explain their powers to the reader before doing something. That pissed me off. Chris Claremont came back to the series at #100, and I hoped he would change things. But to tell the truth, he made things worse. The story arc was pretty boring, and the art was also getting poor (in X-Men, not Uncanny X-Men). So around #107-8 I just quit comics for good. Haven't bought a comic since then.

Now I hear little things about the comic which makes me chuckle. Apparently Cyclops is alive again; I was pretty glad that he died to tell the truth. But then Claremont fucked things up by making fucking Gambit and Rogue the leaders of the X-Men. WTF? Storm and Jean were the best choices, by far. But instead they went with the cool, accessible characters. Meh.

Also I heard Xavier can walk now...ok. Oh well. Anyway I've been hearing good things about Civil War, and I might just give it a chance. I'm a complete Marvel fanboy at heart; I've never been a fan of anything DC (except Batman). I respect them, as well as Superman (although I don't like him as a character), but I'm just not into that universe, or the characters who populate it.

Pheonix, check out V for Vendetta and Watchmen as soon as motherfucking possible. Also, this Lost Girls might be right up your alley.  :P

I've never really been into X-Men, but with that said I have read a good portion of Claremont's Dark Pheonix Saga and enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend getting back into comics right now, and picking up the Civil War issues and tie-ins...  ;)

Watchmen gets a lot of praise, but I find it be a bit overrated by the comic community.  It's good, no doubt, and deserves a lot of praise, but it also has a lot of faults.  V for Vendetta is excellent, though.  I really like a lot of Moore's other work -- Miracleman, Top 10, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the collection of his best DC stories, etc.

If I were to write a Superman movie, you better damn well be sure that I'd use For the Man Who Has Everything as a plot element.

Yeah, DC's Greatest Alan Moore Stories collection is another keeper. The LoEG has always been a "better than average, but not great" title imo, and I happen to like Watchmen alot better than VfV (although I consider both classics). Really, almost anything by Moore is gold besides his work for Image during the 90's (apart from Supreme, which AFAIK is pretty good).

Marvel is just starting to pick itself up again, after most of the X-Men titles have been lagging and JMS pulled down his depends and shat all over Amazing Spider-Man. If you want to get back into Marvel characters, I'd recommend picking up some of the Ultimate titles, which have been the company's saving grace for the past few years.
