Elden ring!

I’m torn between elden ring for PC or the PS quintuple.  PC should be able to handle it without issue and it’ll have more longevity there, but after that big exploit that was found in the souls games I’m fairly leery about it.

I may get Horizon on discount like I did for the first one.

KOF is a definite and my #1 most wanted game this month
Elden Ring too even though I suck at those games
Magam Lord sounds interesting... heard it was by a lot of the Summon Night team.

I want to get Horizon and Elden Ring, but I don’t think I have time for both  :-\

Might just get  :aloy for now since it’s a more chill game. By the time I’m done, ER should have some nice QoL patches, and maybe a slight sale.

Same...  however, I decided to lean into ER first for different, personal reasons; I really enjoyed Horizon, but it wasn't the GOAT.  I didn't play it till about a year after release anyway.  I can wait on this one (and maybe a drop in price in Summer?)...  that being said too, I'm still a bit bitter on the pricing BS Sony pulled on it.  They claimed they rolled back the PS4 upgrade to PS5 to be free.... but yet, the PS store has yet to reflect that price or mention.  I'd prefer to have both PS4 & 5 versions, but nothing on the store front confirms that the PS5 version is a free upgrade yet.   Eff that noise.

Didn't play the first Horizon, just missed the boat on last gen and don't have it in me to slog through a last gen visual feast Ubisoft clone. New one looks great though, will probably check it out at some point but I'll be dining on Elden Ring exclusively for a while once that's out.

1st Horizon was a pretty good open-world game. Not that hyped for the 2nd though, but I don't doubt that it will be enjoyable.

Elden Ring is a must-buy.

Monark looks like weeb shit that I buy.

What I liked about Horizon was that it felt like they took the Ubisoft formula and made it for people like me. The world and encounters feel like there is some craft behind them. It had "towers" but there were few of them, visually cool, and most were unique in their approach. The cauldrons were cool in their design, tied into the lore, had a meaningful reward. The only bad part where the bandit camps since they were just typical open-world shit and the game's melee and human combat is crap.

I'm not excited for the sequel since I feel it will be bigger and just become a Ubisoft open world game and why wouldn't it? People loved Ghost of Tsushima which to me is a fairly by the numbers game.

I just want to be able to ride every dino instead of just the one tiny Striders in H1. Apparently that is unlikely to happen in the sequel. If I can't override a mecha-bird and jump on it and soar through the sky I'm gonna be disappointed.

I really, really want flying mounts but I feel like it is something they would have shown off by now...HOWEVER. The new flying Sunwing is front and center on the cover art. Of all the things to showcase, it feels deliberate. So we'll see.

And someone asked the director about this (specifically I think it was about riding a Tremortusk) and they DID playtest riding the bigger robots. First they had to the pull the camera really far back to accommodate and it was difficult to even see the player character.  Second it was super difficult to balance. Riding a thunderjaw or something just breaks the game.

I'm of the belief this series just needs to be a stealth Zoids reboot that lets us pilot robot t-rexes and whatnot but maybe for next game  8)

It's the combat and world that separated Ghost. Playing that game on Lethal is fucking awesome. Nailing perfect parries on the mode just feels earned and fantastic as a result. They also took more time in designing the enemy bases and locations in interesting ways compared to something like AssCreed Valhalla, which just feels copy and paste after the 3rd or 4th shire.

Ubisoft has become the go-to example for endless icons and map bloat, for good reason, but it's the bloated combat that is really failing them in AssCreed. They have a ton of weapon types and unique animations and kill animations but it's all in the service of nothing because the combat feels crappy. They could cut skill trees, number of weapons and map size down by 60% and focus on improving the other 40%, and the games would be much better for it. It also doesn't help that Ubi is pumping these games out in 3 years by just throwing 10+ studios at one title to farm out content. Horizon and Ghost get 5-6 years in the oven and come out better for it.

I get the camera thing. The camera is way too fucking close in this game. I've gotten used to it but it almost feels claustrophobic at time. I think zooming back shouldn't be an issue, but they obviously don't want to do that.

As for balance idk, that seems bullshit. If you can still override them and point them at enemies while also running around attacking at the same enemies yourself, the damage output shouldn't be any difference if you ride them. I guess it makes you tougher to be hit since melee attacks would miss you. But you can balance that by just having the mechs you ride be pretty low DEF so they break after a few melee hits or like big hits from dinos knock you off the mech you're riding.

This isn't an MP competitive game, balance doesn't have to be exact. And sometimes fun is more important and riding dinos is fun.

Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection
I thought this looked odd. It's just a Switch port of the "remastered" 2016 pack of the 2009-2011 games.

This was the "remaster" with all the bad faces they had to patch after release:

from everything i've consumed about the sequel it's going to be similar in size but increasing how you can interact with the environments. swimming, grappling, gliding. more money to throw at the production, full mocap animations etc. assuming it will still be rpg lite where you eventually just get everything instead of moving more into skill trees and abilities that change depending on your playthrough/path chosen.

my biggest criticism of hzd is the combat quickly feels repetitive. doesn't matter if it's a thunderjaw or a longleg the way you take them down is pretty similar. hard to avoid, making this too complex or strategic like a true monster hunter would dampen the appeal to many, and overall i think they did a great job... just would've liked to see some more variety, but nearly every enemy boils down to dodge and circle strafe, trigger elemental weakness, pummel with your most damaging arrows as fast as you can. i think combat will be more strategic and interesting in the sequel with more tools to approach the problem, and more variety in enemies. adding an enemy faction that can ride dinos too, that tremortusk with enemies trying to pummel you with arrows from it's back while also attacking you with it's moveset :lawd looks fun af.

I'll be busy with that instead of Elden Ring.

I'm hoping when Total War III comes out Total War II will finally drop in price. Never been under $20 in sales.

I'd like to try Total War for the Warhammer, but I'm really not into Total War style strategy games and get bored very quickly. I guess I can try Total War III vanilla on Game Pass. My understanding is that they're all integrated though so you want to have Total Warhammer I/II/III on the same platform.

Even though the Warhammer games are integrated with each other, they are fine as standalone games. There is a lot of content in each game and playing through a campaign will take you many hours. Give it a try and see if it's your thing.

The first game has been 75% off regularly during Steam sales. You can try the new game on Game Pass and if you like it then you can go back and pick up the old games during sales.
