The 90's was the best decade for games. Your argument is invalid.

Doubt it, gaming has been on a downhill trend for a while now, imo.

I appreciate the optimism, but I believe demi may be right.

But with the likes of such gems as Astrobot, there is a small beacon of hope.

It just depends, money has consolidated towards the big budget games and mid-sized, AA games gone. If those mega games don't hit for you, it's going to feel like a drought. It's either AAA or indies and nothing inbetween.

That said, a lot of my favorites are from the last 10-12 years. A mega game like RDR2 definitely hit for me. Nintendo and FromSoft have also done a lot of the heavy lifting, though. I'm also a big Persona enjoyer so between P5, Royal and all the re-releases, I've been eating good. I also like Sony's open world games which it feels like a lot of people have problems with for whatever reason.

SNES vs Genesis and PS1 (plus the best of the N64) just put out so many top tier games I don't think we'll ever recreate that level of output again.

2023 and this year were incredibe for me. Lots of fantastic rpgs and indie games. Next year honestly looks a bit slow so far, but we'll see what happens with Switch 2.

The worst post-crash period of gaming for me was probably from like 2007 to 2014.

Yeah, personally, my most anticipated games for a multitude of years both came out this year (Dragon's Dogma 2 and Astrobot).  I don't really have anything that really hyped me as much as those games did... At least there's nothing that I know of.  Sure, Death Stranding 2, MGS:▲, Exodus and MH: Wilds, I guess...  Capcom has been silent about Dragon's Dogma DLC, so it's still N/A at the moment, but other than than that, I got nothing that I feel that hyped for.  Just chugging along with backlog... which I am more than content playing.  It's all bonus for such bombastic years of 2023-24.

Oh, yeah Switch 2. lol.  They've got allot to to prove get me hyped for any of their stuff again, so it's currently N/A for me at this time either.

As I'm writing this, just remembered Ghost of Yotei and Doom: Dark Ages.  Those two maaaaaybe closer to the top of my anticipation hype meter.  Like most generations, the second half pretty much always gets rolling with the good shit.  No matter how you cut it, even with buy-outs, closures and shitty political shit crammed in certain titles, there's still plenty to go around to satisfy, and skip the shit you don't want.  Until WW3 starts, I don't see a drought happening anytime soon.
