Your Cheap Games Thread For 02/04/2007
« on: February 04, 2007, 09:15:47 PM »
Circuit City is having another one of their legendary video game sales, this week's being 20% off any game regularly priced at $19.99 or less.  For $15.99 each, I picked up:

1.  Super Mario Sunshine.  Heard both good and bad things, but water-powered jet pack too intriguing to pass up

2.  Donkey Kong Jungle Beat with Bongos.  I'm going to feel like a world-class distinguished mentally-challenged fellow while playing it, but it looked fun.  They had Donkey Konga 2 with bongos for the same price, but I didn't like most of the songs I saw listed online.  I'll probably pick up the first one at some point, though, as the song list is much better.

3. Black for Xbox.  This finally hit the sweet new game pricing spot for me.  I hear it's short, but loads of mindless fun.  I hope it plays well on the 360 BC.

I have never been able to find Circuit Citys deals. Seattle sucks for sales on games cause goddamn Penny Arcade freaks buying it all up!

Every time CC has one of their outrageous "$8.96" clearance sales, I end up missing most of the good stuff - and I live in a fairly small city.  The last couple of times I went to dig through what was left, there were people there with printed lists, going through every single stack.  One guy had a basket filled with games for various systems last time I went for that sale.  This was just a normal Sunday sales ad sale - they usually don't advertise the $8.96 clearance sales much, or by the time they do everyone already knows and has picked them clean.

It also doesn't help that a lot of the Circuit City's closed down.

What?! Is this happening at every CC or just one near you?

Should be every Circuit City.  The 20% off all games $19.99 and under is listed in their Sunday sales ad.

GodDAMN Black looks good on the 360.

Super Mario Sunshine has an awkward camera.

I haven't tried DK Jungle Beat yet.

Yeah, it really does.

Thanks for the tip, think I'll check out my local Circuit City later. I assume PC games are also in the sale?

They don't specify in the ad, and I didn't think to walk over to the PC aisle when I was there.

I'm going to try it tonight.  I'm stuck on Medal of Honor because of distinguished mentally-challenged Nazi AI that asks me for my identification, lets me pass, then asks me for my identification again and starts shooting as soon as I turn my back - so I want to take a break from that.

FUCKING SWEET

At least someone got what they wanted.

No really though, they're both games well worth the 20 bucks. SotC I feel is a bit overrated, but it actually got me somewhat emotional. I'm kinda embarrassed. It's an unbelievably cool concept, but in practice, it gets a bit boring and the camera and controls are a bit wonky. It's such a cool game though that I look past some of its faults.

God of War is just a short "holy shit I'm kicking ass" kind of game. You just feel badass while playing the game because you just own faces with Kratos. I couldn't put it down.

heh, that's funny--i had the reverse reaction to the two, though i'll admit that i'm a sucker for a unique, intriguing atmosphere as much as i am solid gameplay.

they are both totally worth twenty bucks.  in fact, that's a ridiculous steal.

SOTC is incredible.  Such a unique game that its faults are easy to look past.  It does get boring though.  It's not a game that I can sit and beat in one night just for shits and giggles.  I'll get bored and pick it up again a few days later and beat a few more colossus.  so awesome though.  I almost missed out on this because the GAF circle jerk made me sick.  Thank God I didn't

Now, God of War, as an action game, I feel it's very overrated.  It's fun as hell, but pretty much a button masher.

Both worth the price of admission though!

I love SotC. I think the short gameplay adds to it. If they had any more Colossus it would feel unnecessarily long. I think they could have added more puzzles, and some tricks that would be required to reach the Colossi, and if they did, it would have easily topped every Zelda in existence. But nope. Still, what's there is a pretty damn good game and I found the story to be absolutely beautiful.

God of War is okay. Pretty good game, but to me it's nothing compared to DMC or NG. Still, it's better than the other games in it's genre currently on the market that are DMC clones.

I enjoyed GoW more than Ninja Gaiden.

NG was too long for my short attention span nowadays. Of course, it has much more depth and if I actually replayed games, I would rank it higher, but as a one time experience, I enjoyed GoW more.

You can crucify me now.

I forgot to see if they had Ninja Gaiden Black there.Once I get that, I'll have all the important action games of last gen, except for the impossible to find Zone of the Enders 2. :(

I want Okami too, but I can't bring myself to buy it for $40.
