I was about to make a topic concerning this. I think MS might have made a huge mistake here.

If the developers are telling the truth and Killzone looks amazing in the demo, MS will look stupid. Why? For rushing Bungie into showing an unfinished project again. Halo 3 was revealed awhile ago, and when it was it looked like Halo 2: HD. We all know it'll look 10 times better in the end, but why show it now? When people see Killzone, assuming it's as good looking as advertised, MS will have egg on their face. Again.

Personally I don't think the game will look fuck awesome next month but we'll see

I don't think Halo 3 will sell like Halo/Halo 2.  Maybe if the 360 had more market share and the Halo movie were to be released, but I think that the hype has settled down.  Reminds me of Resident Evil after the second one.  It'll sell very, very well, but won't reach the hype of the first two installments.

Halo 2 was saved by its multiplayer, that made it a pretty big hit for a completely different reason. Halo 3 is big, but honestly how many series have people lining up outside anymore? Consoles maybe, and thats not even because they are excited, its because they are SCARED they might not get one.

I think Halo 3 will sell really well and will be really pretty and I think a lot of people will like it, but the superstar rockstar OMG releases just dont happen like they used to.

Coming off of reading that thread in GAF, this game is bound for failure, no matter how good it is.

You have the XDF saying it will never top Halo 3. Once the game comes out, they will do everything they can to make Halo 3 look like the better game, whether it is or isn't.

It should surpass the sales of Halo 2 in the US. As MAF said, the install base is much bigger now. One thing that has become quite clear about the Xbox 360 is that its owners buy a lot of games. The attatchment rate is pretty crazy, and nearly every game that falls in line with the system's core demographics sells very nicely.

To date Gears of War has sold 3 million copies. By November the install base will be much bigger, a pricedrop will be on the table, and Halo mania will once again grip the gaming world. Considering the insane attachment rate of GOW, it's pretty safe to say Halo 3 will sell like crazy.
