Osbournes Say Ozzfest Tickets Will Be Free
Sharon Says Tickets Have Become Too Expensive

POSTED: 7:04 pm EST February 6, 2007

LOS ANGELES -- Ozzfest will be free this year.

Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne made the announcement in Los Angeles Tuesday. The heavy-metal concert festival has showcased hard-rock bands since 1996.

Sharon Osbourne said ticket prices have climbed for the last few years, ranging from $35 to $150, and she wants fans to be able to afford the shows. She said fans don't want to pay for overpriced CDs anymore, and the same goes for live music.

Fans will still have to get tickets, which they will get through links at www.Ozzfest.com or www.LiveNation.com that will take them to sponsor sites. The sponsors will underwrite the cost of Ozzfest.

Ozzy Osbourne will be the headliner. The rest of the lineup has not yet been announced. The tour kicks off July 7 in Los Angeles, with stops planned in San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Dallas, New York, St. Louis and several other cities. A final list of dates and stops is still in the works.

--------------------------------

I think this will have the opposite effect.  Actual fans won't be able to go, because poor, obnoxious people will get tickets just for the sake of getting free tickets.  Plus, the corporate whoring that they'll have to undertake to pay this thing off will be ridiculous.

Imagine how the smaller, less known bands will take this. For better or for worse, Ozzfest has brought many small bands lots of fame within the last few years - from SOAD to Disturbed. If you're one of these up and coming bands I'd think you'd be more apt to sign on to a tour that guarentees more money, like say Family Values or Music as a Weapon.

I don't disagree with you, but I'm not going to immediately write off such an experiment.  Sharon Osbourne knows infinitely more about concert promotion than either of us.  I'm POSITIVE the devil is in the details, but at least it will be a NEW devil.

My prediction on the "devil":  Ozzy is the only worthwhile headliner.  The Osbourne's have fat pockets, but not fat enough to support their typical lineup.

Yea outside of Ozzy and SOAD the lineup is rather weak. And even Ozzy isn't that great anymore. I wish he'd take a break from touring, rest his voice, and show some damn interest in getting back with Sabbath for one more try. One more album.

Although with Sabbath reuniting with Dio I can't complain to much :bow

Look at the page title.  That is 2006.  The article says 2007 lineup has yet to be announced.

I don't know, I think this might be somewhat in response to Gigantour.  Ozzfest for the last two years has had a pretty piss poor lineup.  Also I don't like the looks of this:

WTH?!? Will this be like 'Click on this add to go to Ozzfest for FREE!*"

*After you sign up for 8 billion things.

Ozzy is getting old and normaly wouldn't be a problem save for the ridiculous amounts of drugs/booze he's injested over the years.  I don't know how much longer he'll be able to do it.  Pretty soon he'll just start screaming onstage "I LOVE YOU ALL"  "GO CRAZY!" and won't even sing the songs, he already uses a teleprompter for lyrics.  At least he and Zakk are pretty excited about this album so that's good.  This year has much promise, new Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth and Iomi + Dio.  We'll see how it unfolds, all I know is unless they get some more real metal bands at Ozzfest (not the typical Headbangers Ball garbage) I won't give them a second look.  I am looking forward to Gigantour and Metallica this year though.  Metallica's new album BETTER NOT SUCK!
