Without clicking the link, I probably know that its a horribly cliche fan film. I have seen many of them and yes, most of them are dismal. I guess I used to be a fanboy before the prequals came out, now im extremly apathetic.

Star Wars regardless of how weak the prequels were was a creation of George Lucas's and in terms of films the franchise should die with him because it is his, regardless of quality. I feel that way for anything when the creator had total control over the creation. There should be no Harry Potter books without J.K. Rowling and no Middle Earth books without Tolkien and so on.

Don't mess with stuff like that. If it is some corporation creation nonsense like Star Trek who the hell cares.

Regardless how good a writer/direct in 20+ years may be the Star Wars films were Lucas's and it should remain that way(and it just so happens it likely will). I don't have to love a creator's work to know that someone else shouldn't meddle with it. Star Wars is George's baby, let him have it.

No one will be able to ever, for better or for worse. Seeing how it was a independent film project with no studio involvement outside of distribution means that Star Wars lives and dies with the Lucas family. Not like Star Trek or even LOTR where someone can meddle with it in 20+ years.

Which is precisely why there WILL be more Star Wars movies, as shitty as that would be, at some point in the future. You can't tell me his kids/grandkids/etc aren't going to exploit that brand power at some point once he dies.

Tolkien's family outside of publishing un-published work by Tolkien hasn't really added any new stories after Tolkien's death though.

It's amazing George Lucas even has kids though. He is un-married and adopted the 3 kids and raised them on his own (which is why he dissapeared from films after The Last Crusade for about 15 years). I never heard of a single guy ever doing that before.
