its a pretty mean genre. Once I get into an RPG I find it hard to put down!
My favourites:
Earthbound
FFVII, VIII, IX
Skies of Arcadia
Grandia 2
Baten Kaitos
Contact
Legand of Legaia
post your other must play favourites here! What RPG should I check out next?
I liked the ones highlighted, never played any of the rest except for Legend of Legaia..... and I FORCED myself through half of it before I lost my mind and had to stop playing..... 4 months later I literally gave it to someone for absolutely nothing and apparently they enjoyed the hell out of it..... so I guess it did something good.
My favorites:
Final Fantasy Tactics (only because of the grind you get to do on sweegy woods for a few hours that makes the game easy as pie).
Dragon Quest 8, Wow this game was pretty fun! It was so old school and had some fun little graphics too it. Plus getting all of the end game stuff monsters, treasures, other crap was a lot of fun.
Dragon Warrior 4, The best of the dragon warrior series.. but you'd have to be prepared for mad oldschool to sit through it.
Final Fantasy 2 (4), Final Fantasy 3 (6) are both greats, although cecil/kain beat out terra/locke any day.
Phantasy Star 4, holy SHIT this game is a GEM! I played it for the first time a little over a year ago.... one of the greatest RPGs ever.
Zelda: A Link to the Past, you think Ocarina of Time was good? This is where all of the cool shit originated from.... by far the best Zelda (my wife still refuses to ever play it, wtf?)
Half-Life, I know it's not really an RPG, but it has a really cool story!!
Xenogears.... you have to be prepared for long talks between characters, in depth and secret storylines, major development, and somewhat of a lack of a cool battle system (although when you fight with your guys on the ground the combos were SOOOOOOOOOO COOL when I first tried them!).
When you've completed all RPGs and you find yourself at a standstill with a lack of games........ you can sell your soul to the devil and play World of Warcraft.
Oh how could I have forgotten!? Play Chrono Trigger too

I actually played through that game (no not with Game+) recently and had a ton of fun doing it. I looooove the Magus parts, and the underwater palace
