I didn't notice a thread about this, so I should mention this fun little game where you pick who will win at the Oscars.

And the winners are: those who bribed the Academy members the most!

So? If you have predictions, I'd still like you to play.  :-*

I predict Marty will once again be left looking like a sad puppy dog when the Academy gives Clint Eastwood the direction award  :'(

I don't think any "respected" outlet is predicting that Marty will lose. Every prediction place I have read says Marty, Marty, Marty.

And hasn't he already won a shitload of awards this year from all the other shows?

I read it a few weeks ago, and I just check up on it: Marty won the DGA award for "Outstanding Directorial Achievement for Feature Film" and only 6 times has that not predicted the Oscar for Best Director.

Guess what? Those same "respected" outlets said the same for Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Gangs, The Aviator, etc. And the Academy has proven themselves so be Eastwood ball-washers of the highest degree.

I am sort of secretly hoping Marty doesn't win. I like the idea of him joining Hitchcock, Kubrick, and Welles.

There is little to no Eastwood hype among "oscar cirlces" this year unlike those years however.

I dunno. Seems like Clint just has to direct anything to get the statue these days. Besides, like I said, Scorsese is one of the greatest filmmakers ever, like Hitch, Kub, and Welles, who also were shafted by the Oscars. I rather like that club of "fuck you Academy, my shit is too hot for you!" directors, since 3 of them are 3 of my top 5 directors ever.

Traditionally, yes. But it seems no one cares about Iowa Jima this year and everyone is assuming Marty will get it. Marty has had good chances in the past but this is the first time it is considered a lock and that no one has a chance at beating him.

And Marty is far from a "fuck you Academy, my shit is too hot for you!". From what I can tell he is a director who wants one BAD. He made the aviator to more or less win an oscar.

Actually, lots of people care about Iwo Jima, and for good reason - its an excellent film.

And Marty is far from an Oscar-bait director. He made The Aviator because Leo and Mann asked him too. It wasn't even supposed to be directed by Marty, so I dont see how it could have been made "to win an Oscar".

As good as Letters From Iwo Jima may be, Eastwood should be kicked in the nuts for releasing Flags of Our Fathers.  This HAS to be Scorsese's year........right?
