I would say that Scarface is the better written movie, but that Carlito's Way was, personally, more enjoyable.

First of all: yes, that is a correct statement.
Second of all: Scarface sucks dick, so it's not a huge achievement. Carlito's way is pretty damned good but never rises to great.
Finally: both are lesser De Palma flicks. He gets a lot of hate, but some of his earlier Hitchcock ripoffs were damned good.

The only thing I love about Scarface is the 80's soundtrack, and that Vice City wouldn't exist without it.

I don't understand why rappers have this fascination with Scarface.  It's like they stop watching the movie before the end.

:lol QFT

It's not like Scarface magically escapes at the end or "fakes" his death and comes back ten times more powerful, Makaveli style. He died with his kingdom in shambles and buckshot up the ass.

I actually like Scarface. It's a pretty fun movie as far as crime movies go. The writing is also very, very good; Oliver Stone used to be one hell of a writer, and even had the ability to make rather cheesy movies like Scarface and Conan have some pretty awesome lines. Both are well written imo.

I've never seen Carlito's Way though

Also, PD, you should know that both Stone and De Palma were coked out of their fucking minds when they made this. Hell, they were thru most of the 70's and 80's.

Surprisingly I thought the DTV prequel was pretty decent, but not because of P Poppa Diddy Pop's performance. :yuck

Agent Cody Banks is better than Scarface.

I remember being terrified of Scarface when I was young back in the 80's, but watching it now I can't help but laugh at how fucking ridiculous that film is.  It's so campy and over the top - it's the Showgirls of crime films.
