« on: February 13, 2007, 08:51:34 PM »
I wanted to get Beauty and the Beast for this girl for Valentines day and apparently it's not in print anymore?  What the fuck?  I've been looking online for like 3 days when I had a chance and I went today to the malls and around and the same shit.

what is this shit?

I dont think I know any parents with LEGIT disney dvds because of this; hell most kids dont know who Mickey mouse is nowadays. Their strategy is failing.

Hmmm. Best Buy and Wal Mart? You'd think Wal Mart would have it...

Try Toys R' Us.

Same actually.  I know I've seen it at my best buy here in Houston because my daughter loves that movie and about a month ago we were in the store and she kept carrying it around.

I still don't understand the meaning of it :scratch wouldn't people buy it regardless on the first day because it is a classic?  I'd assume shit like birthdays christmas and ..erm valentines would still give it good sales, oh well I guess the make money.

But yeah apparently it went out of print years ago, wtf?

Chris - that way, every few years they can do another limited release and build up a whole ton of hype for it, (when they "open up the vault, for a limited time only!" so all the people that missed it the first time will run over and get it. Not a fan of the strategy either, but whatever, it does work...

Its called moratorium, and its Disney's "strategy", and always has been. They release the movie on DVD, sell it for about a year, then yank it from shelves and dont sell it again for another 10 years or so.

hell most kids dont know who Mickey mouse is nowadays. Their strategy is failing.

that would be because Disney constantly featured him prominently in animated movies and TV series in the past, and that they've used their emblematic character far less in the last two decades than they did before

No, they used Mickey a lot in the 90's still. In the 00's however...
