Yeah, the story and title sucked, but that wasn't my fault; I agreed to shoot a friend of mine's idea so that we could enter something in the local film festival, like three days before entries were do.

Sound is awful. Would it have killed you to get a MD recorder or something? Shit, I would've loaned you mine! Lighting is pretty bad in spots. And when the dude is texting, there are too many handycam movements. Doesn't have to be static, but you're zooming and doing this and that.

You need to edit it tighter. Like have the noise of the phone vibrating fading in while your friends are leaving.

Camera is shaky as hell.

The fight is kind of corny, emphasze the parts where you dont actually see the punches. I like the fade to him on the ground with his foot over him. Get to that quicker so I don't spend too much time thinking about the overall fight.

Nah, they're both fake. I told you, I hate almost nothing to do with this besides shooting it, and I have no idea where the fuck the dude came up with "9-5 Productions"

Willco: We just took the sound from the camcorder, that was how cheap and time-constricted we were. I know, the sound is fuckin' TERRIBLE. But at least I gots muh blood effects.

I can tell its from the camcorder, but sound is the easiest and cheapest way to make a movie look like something you shot legitimately or something you shot with a camcorder.

It doesn't take much to get a MD recorder, a mic and transfer that shit to PC.

Fuck do I care about sound, this was a shitty student film entered in a crappy film festival. All I really wanted was to try and pull off a semi-realistic fight scene, and I'm pretty proud by how it turned out.

IIRC, we had this long, Rashomon-esque storyline in place where this guy is jumped after school or something, and everybody involved has a different take. We shot some more footage, which didn't make it into the film in time for the festival.

That's why I recommended that the easiest and cheapest way to make a short look somewhat presentable is to clean up sound. It makes a huge difference. I've seen some horribly shot stuff skate by because, at the very least, they were audible and had properly placed music cues.

Oh my God, FoC, if you ever get to Hollywood - have some fun. There are a couple of sites that you can go to setup auditions and you will get hundreds of applications, even if it's some shitty student film. Me and my roommates would setup fake roles for fake movies just to look at the headshots and rate women.

Re-read the OP, we had 3 DAYS to come up with the concept, shoot, and edit anything we could. Believe me, if I had really thought much of this I wouldn't have had my camera-shy friends be the leads.

There are sites that you go to post parts so that actors and actresses can audition, that are prevalent in Hollywood. Because like, everyone is an actor. My roommates still had their accounts from their NYFA days when they had to cast their student films, and they setup fake roles for fake movies just to look at the applications. You then look at headshots and rate women.
