Silverfall Demo (Diablo-clone)

This is a perplexing game for me. I have played about 3 hours so far here are a few impressions.

1) It's ugly. They tried to go with a semi-cel shaded look for the game, but it doesn't look good. Especially when you start off in a dreary swamp, there are no bright colors to really set off the graphics. Everything looks simple and washed out.

2) It's HARD. I have it on normal and I can not get far at all. I am level 5, but am getting my ass kicked by Ghouls.

3) Mission overload. Even before you leave the small encampment, you are loaded with 5 or 6 missions and no real clear indiction of where each mission is on the map.

4) Nice loot. I am pretty happy with the loot and the types of drops you get.

5) Character creation/progression. Can't really comment on this yet, since I picked a troll and have him as a basic fighter. But basically, each character is a blank slate (aside from their racial dis/advantages) and you can pick what type of class you want when you level up. You can make one balanced in magic/combat ... or do a ranged/combat/magic .. etc. Or you can just key on one class type.

Overall I am pretty mixed on this game. There is enough for me to keep wanting to play it, but nothing as polished or nice as Titan Quest or even Sacred.

I was interested in this game. Guess I'll try the demo, but you don't paint a flattering picture. Then again, as TVC and MAF will attest, I have a creepy fetish for European Diablo clones, so what the hey!

It wouldn't run on Vista.

Game ran fine in XP, but it just didn't grab me. I enjoy playing mages pretty much exclusively in these games, and my magic DPS was woefully weak and wasn't doing anywhere close to the tooltip values, even when the spell was maxed out for my level and I was fighting even-con mobs.

One thing that I did sort of dig was that fights with enemies were broken up into MMORPG-like "pulls of creatures". It was slower than gogoogogogogogo diablo 2, but it felt smarter than that game does. The early loot wasn't bad, but it seemed like it wasn't very interesting either.

Definitely a mixed bag/try it out type of game. I bet some people will actually dig it, but I'd be shocked to see it rise about 70% in the review circuit.
